I don't agree with this: Up-voting yourself as a method of compound interest
Self up-voting 10 times each time your power has reloaded will make you rich - so?
This will kill the platform and there are much better ways to earn and gain respect in the community
Steemit will eat itself
There is talk that up-voting yourself on full power 10 times and then repeating this in 5 days when you are 'recharged', could well indeed make you a millionaire in around 7 years from an initial $100 investment. I've not checked into the validity of these numbers, and honestly i'm not going to because this to me is not what i want to see or read about at all.
For the seasoned members of the community, they should be well aware this behavior will send the platform into oblivion. When i see Witnesses/standby witness/users with a large amount of Steem Power discussing this, it gets me angry. It sounds long-sighted, but for me its the exact opposite. Unethical, not in the best interests of the platform, go away.
Other ways to earn and gain respect
When you have your follower base, you will post once or twice a day and make $50 -> $3000 each time. Job done, and welcome to victory!
If you are new or don't have a niche topic area /loyal follower base, then it will be commenting on posts that earns the majority of your Steem. Of course, continue with the blogs and see what happens, just don't be too disappointed you have put 4 hours work in for $.50.
Summary
I'm not against up-voting your own blogs if you have put a few hours work into them, just be respectful to the platform and don't fuck it up for the rest of us. Spread your votes, combine them with comments, and perhaps you'll get lucky, or a new follower. I've had a $60 and $80 up-vote to a comment in the past 2 weeks, that's enough motivation to keep me away from self up-voting my 5 word comments all day and enough confirmation to know not to concern myself with compound interest on Steemit.
What's the views of people here? Ignore it and hope it goes away?
Should these posts be flagged? Is it fair game?
And am i a total hypocrite paying bots to up-vote my posts?!
Enjoy your weekend
Asher
I've never experienced that particular joy, but I have had several cases of spur-of-the-moment comments earning more than posts that I've spent hours on. This kind of random intermittent reinforcement is more addictive than meth.
Maybe!
I use steem.supply to check post payouts/comments and the comments are always ahead. Clearly those numbers are one-offs for me, but i do see plenty around splashed upon other lucky Steemians.
Have a 100% er on me!
I think it's funny that some of the people who complain so much about what self-upvoting does to the reward pool have no problem with what "buying upvotes" from a bot does to the reward pool. 😖
If i understand you correctly, you are comparing self up-voting with a view to compound interest payments, to buying up-votes from randowhale / minnowbooster / booster?
It's basically self-upvoting by proxy. I mean, if people want to spend their money that way, it's fine. But it's still a manipulation of the reward pool, and if people are going to be so concerned about that, you can't pretend that it's somehow healthier for the Steemit economy to pay a private individual to upvote your posts or comments than it is to use your lesser voting power to do it for yourself. I, personally, don't care how people choose to allocate their voting power, but I have a fine appreciation for irony.
I take your point.
The bots are a service you pay for though, some of them created by Witnesses, and some pay less than the admission fee. For me it's more about the vote (reputation gain) than the money, but you can't argue the same for posts dedicated to 'self up-voting compound interest'.
Again, i take your point. You are a godlike steemian not to use any bots (or even boobs to catch some more votes!)
This requires a lot of free time or a fully dedication to it. Too much work for me. I was about to ask where is the goat but in the end I saw it.
All those things people will do for money lol. I didn't even know about this self-upvoting 10x lol. I don't pay too much attention I guess on giving myself more money. But I'm not gonna do it. Let's do whatever that will keep steemit alive.
I just got carried away with my writing, that I'm ignorant wit everything else. When I was earning steem the first week, I didn't even know what to do with it lol. I guess I have to find some time to learn stuff here.
I'm not surprised anymore if I don't get $$$ from hours of work. I'm used to it by now lol. I'll just wait for the big surprise someday...
Thanks for the info @abh12345
My pleasure. Baby steps is the way in the blogging world, i would say you are doing much better than average (including me) with this :)
Thanks for your input as always!
No worries! :)
Full 100% and resteemed :-)
Thank you kindly! 100% to you too :)
I called it greediness Why will some people do like that. Nice talk @abh12345 what can you say about leasing SP too?
I would agree. I just see it as completely unmoral. Leasing SP, i don't see too much wrong with that, do you?
Same here sir. But is good to deal with someone that is trustworthy because i was told that at times the leasor can terminate the leasee power anytime which somehow not fair enough after you have paid for it. Or is it not true?
Honestly, i'm not informed enough to comment. I assumed the contract is for a set period, but there may be other conditions relating to abusing the power - like voting for yourself with all the power?!
Ok thanks
Many people have invested quite a bit into this platform and they are free to do with it as they like. Trying to shame people into changing behavior is not very effective. Behavior needs to be influenced with the code and if those that made the code felt it was a problem they would change it. The key for steemit to grow will be getting non-crypto people involved so we can get away from being a niche crypto-related blog site.
I think you are missing my point slightly, or maybe I didn't explain in my post clearly enough.
I'm talking about the promotion of steemit as a compound interest generator. Promotion of this by members who have invested nothing or 000s is not good for the platform.
Upvoting yourself and the occasional comment I am not arguing against.
Got ya, well Steemit needs to move away from those types of posts on the trending pages before it can be promoted as something else. Just look at the people who are pushing this agenda by upvoting those type of posts with the most influence and you will find the source of the problem. Right now a new user who looks at the trending page will think this is a site about money (cryptocurrency) and topics about Steemit with a mix of posts from the same pretty girl that all the nerds go crazy for that likes to travel and eat tasty food. So until Steemit can become more than a niche site about money and living decadently we will be plagued with the get rich quick people. If we promote content that appeals to a wider user base we will attract more people. Just look at other social media sites trending pages and it will give you an idea of what that broader market is.
You make good sense dude. If it's trending it's trending, I'm not sure that can ever be fixed. Eithical behaviour could be pushed though, by the people or by bots. I guess we'll have to see what comes in the next hard forks...
Yes. How about working too hard to post. Steemit allows curation rewards from your own post. And even when you post there is a check box if you would like to upvote your own post. Steemit can change the rules and not allow curation rewards from the one who post. Until steemit change the rules we should not have problem with each other.
Hi, thanks for commenting.
I don't have an issue voting for yourself when you produce something you may vote for if you saw it written by someone else.
'Writing' 10 #shitposts, 10 photos, re-posts (yes I've seen them titled this way) just to meet a quota isn't cool, but worst of all is advertising Steemit as a conpound interest generator - post quality will turn to shit, fast.
Wow!! Its an eye opener, nice
Upvoted and RESTEEMED :)
Well thank you very much, welcome to Steemit :)
