What happens if you don't accept rewards and transfer to balance?
I'm noticing something fairly new to Steemit. In my wallet, a button that says something like "Accept rewards and transfer to balance" pops up when its time to receive the author/curator rewards for a post.
I understand what that means and what happens when I press it. What I'm wondering is what happens if I don't press it? Do the "rewards" go away?

Hi Alan,
The rewards are giving back to the rewards pool when you create the post and elect to decline them. They are not destroyed as some believe, but you are simply not claiming them for that post.
If you have elected to be paid for the post, it will be put in your pending balance in about 7 days and you can "Claim" them at anytime after that and put them in your balance.

No, they accrue until you do accept them.
That 'feature' was added to reduce transactions on the blockchain.
Rather than have a transaction for every curation reward, they made it so that you had to accept them in a random number of transactions, instead.
