I THOUGHT THIS SITE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE UNCENSORED.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I'm so sad, I thought this site was the greatest thing ever.
But now, I'm almost taking that back.
If I post adult content & put NSFW as first tag, it gets hidden/censored from everyone's feed and doesn't show up on my blog.
So I tried posting it still including "NSFW" tag, but not as first tag...... and I get flagged.
BULLSHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
FUCK CENSORSHIP.

If parents don't want children on here to see adult content, then maybe they need to do their best to prevent them from being on an "uncensored" (supposedly) site. AND/OR Steemit needs to implement an optional adult content filter, in my opinion.

Edit:
There has been a proposed solution to this....
Put NSFW in title and use a PG photo as first picture, so thumbnail doesn't have nudity.
Also, going to start putting a disclaimer on the top of my NSFW posts.

It pretty much is. You were flagged by one lower-level user that just happened to be a little higher level than you. Your post wasn't deleted, just "hidden" until more users upvote it. But it's not actually hidden. It just takes an extra click to view it.

And yes, the NSFW tag doesn't work right when it's the primary tag. Just put "NSFW" in your title and everything should be fine.

For the record: Porn isn't something that has been prevalent here, so you're going to encounter resistance from other users. It should be expected, even if this is a "censorship-free" platform. Just remember that nothing gets deleted unless you delete it yourself.

Just remember that nothing gets deleted unless you delete it yourself.

Actually, nobody is able to delete it, even the author himself/herself.

What needs to happen is a setting where a person can decide to not filter content.

On another note, and more relevant to your post: There are two things at play here. Steem and Steemit.com. Steem is a censorship resistant blockchain. Steemit.com Inc is a private company. While Steemit.com can decide what they want to show on their site they cannot easily censor the blockchain. If this place gets too locked down someone will start up a new site - freesteem.com or something, and show all content.

I LOVE that @alexanova is posting this content. Many people stand on the anti-censorship soapbox but it's not until they're confronted with something they find distasteful that we see how they really feel about it. This is forcing a conversation that needs to happen.

Some people have proposed the ability to MUTE (and subscribe to) tags, I say this could even be a paid feature with Steem's own currencies.

Yes I proposed muting tags not just users. This could also come in handy for politics and any other subject we have to see on FB. https://steemit.com/steemit/@gregm/suggestion-for-steemit-the-ability-to-mute-tags-categories

You, sir, may be on to something.

Yes he is. That's the way to do it. The platform should be censorship free and have tons of features around it to avoid content you may not want to see.

Hi @alexanova - Firstly, welcome to Steemit! I only found you because of @mattclarke and the discussion about perspective and the NSFW tag.

Sadly, as with any platform there will be some kind of backlash for anyone who does things differently. Definitely use the NSFW in your title if you are posting anything of a racy nature, which includes baring skin or even writing racy scenes. Heck, I believe NSFW has also been used for horror of an explicit kind just to forewarn our sweet readers.

And actually, I believe if you have nsfw in your tags it doesn't show up in the feed at all - at least that's been my experience when I wrote an erotica piece - so I've only used it in the title since then. I have not tried xxx as a tag.

Please don't get discouraged by the flags. I know that's tough to do but you are actually a trailblazer here for the porn industry. That, in my opinion, means you are a keystone player. At this point, the ones flagging you have a lower reputation score and less SP so their down votes may hurt your ego, but it won't hurt your reputation here.

From what I've seen so far, you have been quite respectful, eager to learn the platform, and graciously outraged LOL. I love it - and I will remain in your corner to defend you if need be.

Thank you so much for that!! :)
Appreciate your comment <3

Keep posting, dont let the bigots win.
Just put NSFW in the title and make the first image in the post neutral

IMO, even a raunchy thumbnail should be allowed, the optional front end filters should take care of the rest.

This site is about a revolutionizing technology in the form of a blogging platform which rewards its users with cryptocurrency for good content. This site is NOT ABOUT puking, which is the only thing you make our users do. Be rational, which of the options do you consider to be a good business tactic for Steemit: 1) Making the users puke spontaneously, or 2) Inviting them to an internet revolution, giving them the option to look at the beautiful world of crypto without the risk of seeing someone's asshole and have them puke for the rest of the day? The only ones who are positive about what it is you do are people that are just as broken as yourself. Seek help.

Don't fucking kid yourself. Go start your own fucking website and spread your (literal) shit there.

You are the one kidding yourself. This site is about freedom. Not closed minded individuals enforcing their views on others. I don't want to see porn everywhere either but you have a choice not to look.

if you want steemit to be pro censorship then leave.
go make your own censorship site and leave the freedom to the rest of the grown ups that can handle it.

Liberty and censorship resistance is the revolution.

Agree with you. In all honesty it's kinda like stepping on eggshells here..

You gotta warn folks pretty thoroughly on here before you show them the goods so to speak. I got some flags early on posting some nudity pics (not my own)

Personally I see no point in flagging pornographic material as long as it's properly tagged. Half the fucking internet is porn!

For real!! >.< smh

The nature of 'censorship resistance' on Steem is that it's always still available on the blockchain even if a front end app such as Steemit.com doesn't show it.

Right now the filtering on Steemit.com is pretty crude. All nsfw is hidden with no user options yet. The devs need to get on this.

Thanks for sharing the light on this I HATE any type of censorship!

Hmm ... it's amazing. And it's frustrating.

I'm conflicted on this issue. On the one hand, I'm against censorship. On the other, I came to Steemit to read and share quality content, not porn. Can't people who want to see and share porn go to one of the other 10 billion websites where that type of content is appreciated? Or build a SteemitPorn.com website. Putting porn on Steemit reduces the quality of the site and could be seriously detrimental to the site as a whole.

Except I don't just post porn!
I post about my life from my point of view, and sometimes adult content, since that is a part of my life that I share with the world.
I'm not just some guy spamming porn all day.
Mute me if you don't wanna see my content <3

alexanova, I'm not attacking you. I actually think you're gutsy for doing this. There is some good discussion going on in response, and that's valuable. As far as what you post, I think sharing your point of view about life is the kind of thing a lot of people would be interested in. Actual porn, maybe not so much. But, hey, you do you. That's why we're all here!
