Yes the trending page is a very sad reflection of Steem as a whole. Steemit inc could very easily rename it to a more honest title.
Let's think what they should call it.... Maybe 'Promoted' but then what about the original promoted tab which nobody views. Maybe that could be a currated tab by some trustworthy community and called 'Trending'.
The original trenders can circle jerk themselves to oblivion with nobody watching. Problem solved.
