I'm not sure the only way STEEM gets value is from jerks investing in exchanges. If the STEEM/STEEMIT system has usefulness, like the Bitcoin system does, then coins created 'from nowhere' can have value - just as Bitcoins created during the Bitcoin mining process have value. Also
