9 reasons why moms make great miners
I’m very proud to announce that I’m a stay at home mom, with a 1 year old, and I’ve just started into the world of mining. I’m not seeing a lot of women in this space, I aim to change that.
This might be the most male dominated space I’ve seen yet, and I worked in Engineering during my “career woman” days. I don’t see why this is, there’s nothing about a computer that requires a penis. Back in the 90’s I was on mIRC, (anyone remember that!?) when it took days to download a single screener. There wasn’t a lot of women there either.
I needed someone to show me how to use the platform, but then I was off to the races, vagina and all. Now we have Google, and YouTube, and thanks to so many amazing people who are so generous with their knowledge, I’m getting up to speed and getting first dedicated rig together as we speak! Here's me, way too excited about getting my first RX480.
If you do some quick looking around, you’ll see there’s a great possibility to make real income. It’s not 100% perfect, you have to do it well. But if you do, the idea is to be able to stay at home with the kids and be with them as they grow instead of paying for someone else for that joy. So many moms I know find themselves wishing they could do something to add to the income, that hopefully makes the family more than the cost to watch their children. I of all people really get the need to do something valuable outside the home too, and I do too. But I don’t need to answer to someone else to scratch that intellectual itch. It is both technologically challenging and hugely rewarding when you tackle something like this and win at it.
Here is why I think… scratch that KNOW why moms will be great at this. Saddle up, cause I have 9 great reasons!
Some assembly required, got it!
If you have assembled a stroller, wrestled with baby furniture that you bought second hand with no instructions, you can put together a computer. It’s pluging in lego pieces, and unlike those toys and strollers – instructions are well documented on the internet.Did you say DEAL?
If you’re a coupon clipping, money saving mom, I guarantee you can find parts for a steal. I don’t know how the true deal finding gurus do it, (if you aren’t one yourself, I guarantee you know one!) but I thought I was a deal finder until I saw my mother in law in action. She makes magic happen on a dime. If this isn’t you, I know you know a penny counting money stretcher. She if she’ll work the magic for you, this is how to make mining profitable BTW. Making sure you’re not blowing the farm on hardware is step one.Watch those bills.
Mamas balance the books. I might be generalizing, but many of the mamas I know are watching the books. Watch the monthly spend as you always do and make sure you’re not blowing the budget on power, just as you’re already watching for other spending. Yes this will add to your power bill. Make sure you’re not in a place where power costs a lot, if you’re in an apartment where the energy is included … whoo hoo! Make sure to check your lease and make sure you can’t be evicted for obnoxious energy spending. Eventually, someone is going to think you’re growing weed. When they do, play dumb and you might get a pass. Sadly, this might be the only good use of sexism. They may ask you to knock it back, which is when you’ll learn about underpowering, and might not go 24/7 anymore. Moving on…Research your set up
Learning is your friend. Keep googling. Keep watching these guys tell you everything they know and showing off some sweet setups. The biggest thing is getting over the idea that there’s some knowledge or skill out there that you don’t have access to. In a general sense, the information is out there to get you started, and as long as you use your mom sense, you’ll make adjustments until things work. It’s what you do for your kids and your family, a fancy computer isn’t so different.Be both sides of the equation
Men are so binary. We moms, multitask, no probs.
Mining isn’t the only way to make money, there is trading too. Learning to trade is important. Learn where you want to keep your money, the currency you keep is your investment, it doesn’t have to be the same thing you mine.BTC beats MLM
Not to pick on anyone, I love my industrious moms who resell, but so many of those companies are such scams. The stats are in, and the consultants are the consumers, it’s a very small percent of people who make money. Why? Because sales are hard, and your friend pool is a very small economy. This isn’t a product to sell, it’s a service your computer performs. You just keep it running like you keep your kids from killing themselves or each other. It’s another kid to watch, but this one gives clear error messages.Have a plan
Its important that you do the numbers, and have a plan. Do you need money now? This is more of a long term play, so build something on the side while you take care of business. Can you afford to buy a solid machine? If so, go as big as you can. They last longer and you can mine the good stuff with it. If you see that you can buy shares, in cloud services, research that idea. You can either buy in, or look for your own investors.Moms work best in teams.
There’s absolutely no reason you need to go this alone. I might not have survived this past year without my mom friends. Why not talk with them about this? Yes, they might think you’re insane. If so, send them my way. Or send them this article.Growing with the blockchain
Kids change… daily. You’ve had the joy and sorrow of watching them change and grow at an astonishing rate. Block chain is the same in a way. It’s a baby of an idea, that we know is going to grow. Its that baby that learned how to walk at 8 months. We can’t wait to see he/she grow up. This baby too will fall, stumble, break its arm maybe. Lets just hope the drug thing was a phase. (Silk road reference!). This technology has so much potential and it needs us to keep it safe. Decentralization, is our friend. They can’t attack something that isn’t in one place, and owned by everyone and no one. The more that adopt this technology, the more its worth. The more help and support, the stronger it will become. Your attention and effort mean something to this community. We need as many people working on this project as possible, and as it grows, your investment will too.
You already have the skills you need to get started. You just need to solve problem after problem, and make sure to ask questions when you get stuck. I’m going to be on this road, and if you upvote and comment, I’ll know what you want me to share next.
Let’s mom the hell out of this, this baby needs us.
You are a rare woman. Many don't want to spend the time to understand and care even less. I mean why learn to fix a car when you can take it to a man to do it for you. It is just not most's priority
Thank you very much. I take that as a compliment, although I hope that one day I won't be so rare. I know what you're saying and I hope to unlock some of the things that keep most women from tackling things like this. Many of us were taught that there are just things that men do and that's how it is. I'm so lucky to have grown up with a dad who saw no reason why I couldn't change my own tires or build my own computer.
I think the biggest thing is that we don't see a woman's touch on things like this. It can be hard to see the appeal, especially when tearing apart a computer makes your home an instant disaster! I'm planning some fun posts that maybe women will appreciate. I think there can be more of my breed out there. Thanks for upvoting, and especially commenting. It helps me find more people like you :)

Already having the most important job in the world, taking care of the children, you decided to take on an extra job. Not just a simple job, or a job within the comfort zone of "the average woman". You choose a highly technological field, that requires research and persistance to set up right. I know you also had a great helper, who assisted you along the way. The fact that you do this adventure together makes it that more fun.
You are a power woman, someone who finds her own way, has a strong sense of entrepeneurship, and also is kind and gives back. You also try to take other woman with you in tech, which i as a man can only applaud. Tech needs power woman, the ones that like to experiment and go outside their comfort zone and work hard.
So to you i tip my fedora, and i wish you the best of luck on all your adventures, both digitally and family wise.
