What's the future of Steemit?

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

In the last couple of months I'm having doubts about whether this platform has a real future.
The idea of decentralized social platform that reward good content is amazing, yes.
Hell, this is almost my only income. I can't be a hypocrite.
But what is really behind the curtains of the 1%? Money laundering and pump and dump, nepotism?
Yeah of course, we're not that stupid, but we could all close one eye to that when things were actually improving here, there was a road map, there were new people coming in, what happened?
What has really changed here in the last year?
The color of the fonts? Wow.
Dan went on to work on EOS (and I don't want to even begin on my opinion about the EOS...just like Ripple I will never touch that coin), and after that... nothing really worth of mentioning. Sure there were news that SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN, but nothing really did.

Let's talk about SBD

So, Steem Dollar was supposed to be the equivalent value of one dollar, however, the price seems to be all over the place this year. I don't know if you noticed the pump and dump few days ago, I was in a shock.
I went on to Coin Market Cap, and it said that it's up 60%, and then went on to Bittrex to try to sell some of it, and there it said it's -10%. I was quite confused. This difference is something I never saw.
But, not to dwell on that particular case, why the fuck is this happening with SBD?

This whole platform is stinking more and more of pump and dumps, and really not doing anything to upgrade it.
What can we actually expect here until end of the year?
I would really love to hear some opinons.
Love ya all!

Steemit feels like a pump and dump to be honest with a load of insiders making lots of fiat money

exactly.
it seems like nothing happens here except pumps and dumps.
Ok, couple of accounts that I really love, like Crypto and We Are Change,
that I feel that they deserve to be rewarded.
What is really going to happen in the future here? I really don't see it

a lot of questions to be answered, for sure

I'm really sad about this, but I feel like there is a need to make a different kind of decentralized social platform that will actually work for the community.

I'm also a bit disappointed lately... It's getting more and more difficult to get noticed with quality post among the torrent of bots and fake accounts, and the whales are not helping at all... I have a hard time to maintain my motivation tbh. Fingers crossed though. Still like Steemit, but I take all the tralala with a lot of salt now

It is a complex situation, now more than ever people need to network for their blogs to be successful. Whales do not upvote people anymore, well they only vote for those who planted themselves deep inside their asses. Before every user with decent writing skills had a chance to get upvoted. That time is now long gone, new users will have a ten fold tougher time to get noticed and will probably need to use paying services to get anything.

Steemit inc is more focused on blockchain scaling than making this a social network, they are moving everything to more of a business model with heavy work on SMTs, oracles and communities. However for anyone who didn't sold most of their SP there are many new opportunities with Steem delegations to continue with decent income.

Considering wild price swings, this is crypto, when BTC price drops every coin drops in price more. Also some exchanges like HITbtc are not legit, they freely pump the price of SBD, but nobody can deposit SBD to their exchange. Coinmarket cap takes the average price of every exchange and it seemed that SBD pumped, but that was not the case.

Thank you for this long comment!

Do you think that Steemit as a social platform will slowly go into oblivion?

Also, with these price swings, and well, bloody apocalypse that is going on right now, I'm having doubts about which alt coins will survive all this

Short term it will suck to be only a writer here, long term things will probably improve. It is a long game, very long. Any software project with a lot of people supporting it will be better in a long run.
