Why you should write on Steemit and your voice matters!

Your voice matters ladies and gentlemen

First, let me tell you a tale, maybe even more than that, let me tell you a story. A few days ago, a person was contemplating his or her screen, fingers itching, head full of ideas but never wrote anything. Not a word left the realm of imagination to end up on a post or on a page though. This person was you dear reader, it happened to the best of us. We don't have enough time, the ideas won't form into words, we get a call, an email, a text and our concentration fades away, gone with the wind. Now we're just left in front of that same black mirror and maybe just maybe we'll lay our ideas on a piece of (virtual) paper a bit later... tomorrow maybe.

Go on and share, let it fly!

Now let me tell you something, you should write, you have to write. Writing is a brilliant form to express yourself and let go of some things which might eat you up or simply bug you. Some ideas are little voices that want to be left out in the open, some are funny, some are sad but it doesn't matter what they are, they want out and they want it now!

I feel like many of us don't or won't post in here just because we don't feel like what we have to say matters or it's not interesting enough to be made a post. I urge you to reconsider, writing shouldn't be about pleasing the crowd and the readers ; of course it's rewarding in the sense that it's a boost for your ego. But writing is freedom, it doesn't have to be bound to what people think of you or about what you write.

This very place here is a social media, a social media that lets you talk about pretty much anything, you don't have to use your real identity if you don't feel comfortable writing about some subjects. Maybe your line of work, your social surronding or internal barriers are holding you back. But guess what, this is the Internet and you have all the space and liberty you need to start writing poems even if you're a hardcore metal listener. You can talk about rage and passion even if you're a buddhist monk. Those feelings and their ways to be expressed shouldn't be exclusive.

Maybe what you have to say isn't interesting to me or to the next guy but it might well be for the guys and gals after that, maybe someone is feeling the same as you or has got the same ideas but you just don't know it yet. Even if no one cares, you do. You're the one feeling ligther when the words are out, living a life of their own.

But, what should I write about?

What you write about is your own problem but please do me a favor. Don't write to please, write because you want to, because you want to be heard, because you think what you have to say will be news to your reader, because you just want to express yourself. Writing is art and ideas condensed in their purest form, they transcend matter, once your idea is out there, it'll fuse with other people's life and slowly evolve and transform into a new idea, see, it's got babies!

How should I write ?

Listen up folks! I'm not saying you should let any raw idea out there just like that so I'll do my best to provide some advice you might find useful.

  • Proofread your texts and publications to make sure it does make sense and it's understandable for other people. It doesn't have to but if you want to share and exchange with other people, you might want to have a two-way communication.
  • Giving birth to an idea is difficult, sometimes it might just be a flickering light in your head and you're not really sure about what's going on. Figure it out! Keep track of your thoughts and have a little storyline to base your story on. Having structure will make it easier to get your point across, remember what you were talking about and maybe build more stories or comments later on.
  • If your expressing yourself about a particular subject, inform yourself! We have the opportunity to use #google to know stuff and you should make the best of it. If we want to have quality content and debates, we should promote education and information over mislead talks.
  • It has been said before but tag your post and tag them properly! It will allow you to meet the right people people being interested in the same subjects as you.
  • Enjoy yourself, experiment new styles and subjects, bring a part of yourself to the community!

Bottom line

I'm not advocating for wild contents and I strongly think the form should be worked on to find a good balance with meaning and depth.

Now that this is said, I feel like a lot of people have a lot to share and I believe they shouldn't be scared, you shouldn't be scared dear reader and together we should write and share and have our voices heard. For both ourselves and the community, it's important and it's fun!

Rant/ideas/blabla done my friends,

I upvoted You

Nice bit of motivation. So much so that I'd thought I'd give it I try for the first time in a long time. Thanks.

Nice story! I didn't expect the plot twist at all! Glad I could inspire someone else to write about something :)
