30 Days on Steemit: Achievements & Appreciation

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Consistency

It has been 30 days since I have joined Steemit, so I thought I would do a post appreciating all the achievements. Shoutout to @lymepoet for recruiting me to steemit.

Every day, I managed to write and post a poem. Furthermore, I have been postinga weekly video of Spoken Word. Watch my latest video: When You're Gay

Ocassionally, I write some book reviews. So far I have reviewed four seperate books. Moreover, in the past two weeks, I have been writing a #freewrite almost everyday. This has been a wonderful experience. As a writer, I love the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, and the #weekendfreewrite definitely does that! My latest freewrite is a very emotional short-story, A Miserable Life.

Contests

As part of my growth plan, I have taken part in multiple contests, and have placed and won rewards with the following posts:

RankPostContest
WinnerThe Rights of LGBTQ+ Individuals:
A Deeper Look Into Maltese Equality Laws
LGBT Global Awareness Initiative
1stThe ShearingPoetry Dice Challenge 3000: Week 25
1stCotton RainDie Hard Steemit:
5SBD Flash Fiction Contest
3rdUnder a Tree's ShadeDnW Poetry Contest #5
4thThe Imprisonment of DreamsWhere Poets Dream and Cry
Poetry Challenge

I had also won a 100 SP delegation for just one week; which was extremely helpful! Thank again, @jrswab.

My poem, The Puppeteer was Snekked by @poeticsnake on her return of her curation project, You Got SNEKKED! Curation 02-02-2018.

The book review forTrainride Elsewhere (A Poetry Collection) was curated by @naquoya on her THE LIBRARY #2: A New Curation Post for Reader and Writers.

Through comments and a kind host, I won a game, Offworld Trading Company, organised by @bengy.

Communities

I found home in a lot of discord communities, including:

  • Steemit Poets United
  • The Isle of Write
  • You Got Snekked!
  • Die Hard Steemit
  • Block Chain Poets
  • Steemit's LGBT
  • The Writer's Block

From other social media, I have managed to snatch @eyespluswords and @peaceinartwork, and introduced them to Steemit. I have also attempted to introduce new steemians via the #ians intiative. Last week's post, Introducing a New Steemian: trashie-beeaaa did not leave much payout; but I hope my future posts will be able to help the community more!

I have become a great part of Steemit Poets United, and have become part of the curators. Furthermore we will start organising contests! There is no greater way than to give back what I have earned. If you are interested, you might want to voice your opinions in the last few hours of Steemit Poets United: Poetry contest (Suggestions & Feedback Required). As part of SPU, I also started a weekly curation project. The most recent one is the Best Poetry of the Week - Week #2.

Thanks to the hard work, I have also been awarded the Most Active Member of Steemit Poets United two weeks in a row! The announcement of SPU: Most Active Member Week 3 has notified that to allow room for more winners, nobody will be able to win three times in a row. Hopefully, this encourages others to engage and become more active!

Commitment

There are more achievements and minor accomplishments which I probably have forgotten or left out. On that note, my summary of totaly Steem earnings is: 45 STEEM in my first 30 days! Actually, that is only up to the payouts received so far (including SBD that is yet to be transferred and powered up). Thank you all to those that have made this a great experience! Looking for many more active months on Steemit!

I have big plans for the future, starting in March, but you have to stay tuned for those updates!

One of the most impressive starts for a Steemit user I think I've seen. Good to see you finding your feet here and getting busy. All the best with the next 30 days :)

Thank you! Indeed, creating this post I realised how lucky and blessed I have been! A lot of this is thanks to the opportunities that a lot of other steemians have provided! The biggest surprise was winning a flash-fiction contest with my second flash-fiction write. I used to only write poetry, so I enjoyed trying something new, without realising I had the possibility of winning in non-poetry contests!

Good hustle man, Really motivates me to put some effort in.
Will check out your poetry.

Great! Yeah, my suggestions are two:
Post the best you can! If you can improve a post, do it.
Communicate! Finding other steemians to talk with definitely makes the experience better.

Hope you have a good start too ;)

These are awesome achivements, congratulations! I just realized that I also joined Steemit 30 days ago ;) The community is amazing! I've been a bit sceptical about writing contests, I admit, because it takes some time for me to kind of "settle" into a topic, scene, etc., and I came up a few times with something I didn't really like myself (and therefore didn't post). But maybe I should give it another try, sounds like you're the perfect example of how to succeed! Hope you'll continue your great journey here!

Are you in the Isle of Write or The Writer's Block on Discord? They're really amazing for writers! I understand that when it comes to stories, it's more investment than most poetry, but that shouldn't hold you back! At times, it's not about winning, but it's about getting out of our comfort zones - which in turn helps our writing!

Thanks a lot! I haven't really been on Discord so far, I'm still trying to find some kind of balance between my not-so-creative day job and "the rest". I've been writing forever, though, and published a few things, and so far I've posted a few stories I had already in my drawer (and there are still tons of them). Now that I think about it: I've had some good experiences with writing contests in my life, so I'm not really sure why I haven't entered one on Steemit yet ... I'll definitely give it a try! :)

Ah yeah... time is definitely an issue for a lot of us. I'm a student, so my time is more flexible, and I tend to procrastinate from my studies to spend more time on steemit; as well as working on future projects. Releasing another poetry collection in the coming weeks/months. That should tell you how much I lack priorities hahaha

LOL, that's awesome! I'm self-employed, which allows a lot of flexibility, but if there are projects going on, there's often not really space (also in my head) for creative stuff. But the day jobs also allow me to travel a lot (and write about my travels), so I'm not yet ready to give them up completely ;) From where I'm standing, your priorities are about perfect, btw ... if I could go back, I'm not even sure I would finish school, let alone university ... I started writing "seriously" when I was 14/15, and I've sometimes thought I should have really pursued it at that time instead of doing what was kind of expected of me. But, well, I'm doing it now, and regarding steemit, I'm a very patient person, so everything is fine :)

Well, I enjoy poetry to express myself, but I don't see it as viable to just do it. I really love psychology; and I would love to be involved in research. Part of research is learning and writing, so that's probably something I will love doing. If you get to travel a lot, I wouldn't quit that day job!!

That's great, and also funny, since I wanted to stay in research, too! It's so great to really dig into things and learn stuff. Do you have a particular field in psychology you're into? One of my day jobs is actually being an author for language learning and testing books, which is really not creative ... but I can do it anywhere (as long as there's wifi) and use the money for said travels, so you're absolutely right, I probably won't quit it soon. :)

The field I'm currently most interested in is cognitive neuroscience, or neuropsychology. Something along those links most probably.

I am happy to read that you have found a place here Jeremy. We all have value to share with the world be it expressions of joy or warning, romance or heartbreak, or simply to say who and what we are as perceived by self. Live the dream! Best.

Thanks!! I am living the dream as much as I can!

You also won a game!

I had forgotten for a minute! I updated the post. That game has made me rage so many times already! After 20 times, I managed to win a skirmish against AI!

Amazing! So glad you're here! Are you writing more now as a result of steemit?

Also, how did you decide on which contests and communities to get involved in? There's so much to sort through!

I was already writing a poem a day and doing a weekly video, but with steemit now I'm more committed. As well, I have never done the freewrites or fiction stories before, so this was definitely because of steemit.

It's true, there a lot of communities. I did a lot of trying. There are some I use occasionally, and some I use way more frequently than others. Talking with others helps you realise which ones satisfy your goals more. I do have over 20 discord channels, so on most of them I'm not even active once a week. Eventually, you figure out which ones you really fit in.

I knew it man..... Your creativity is extraordinary, u derived inspiration from anything and everything....
You deserve it!

Thank you! Will be looking forward to see how things progress :)

CONGRATULATIONS! I am a bit late to read this post, as usual. So happy to have you here! I may have told you about Steemit, but you are teaching me things about it that I did not know! ;0) You dove right in and made some amazing things. Within a month, you achieve A LOT, and it's all due to your talent, creativity and your great communication skills. In a nutshell, you rock!

Better late than pregnant (I love the golden girls!).

You opened one door to a corridor - without you, I might have never come across it! Indeed, I did spent a lot of time (maybe a little bit too much) dedicated to steemit and associated communities. It's a wonderful experience and we'll hope to continue going far!
