The Diary Game: 23.05.2026 | Market Shopping Experience for Burial Ceremony
Today I returned home from a long journey. I have been away for about 3 weeks now. And it has been the most draining experience I have had this year.
I traveled from Osogbo to Ilorin for a burial ceremony of a close relative. The whole planning was very tough because I had to go to the markets a lot.
I was told the Emirates market in Ilorin does not allow women to wear trousers to the market because of the cultural laws and traditions. The Emirates palace is in the middle of the market and as a northern Muslim community, the women are expected to be modest and traditional.
I didn't know this actually. So on the first day I went there, I wore trousers. My cousins and aunties also went with me and they were also wearing trousers. In fact, one of my cousins wore a knicker with crocs. When we got to the last junction before the market, the driver asked us where exactly we will drop and we told him at the market. That was when he said that women are not allowed to wear trousers especially on Friday.
We had to go back home that day. And that is a new lesson I have learnt about that particular market.
Other markets in Ilorin don't have this rule. You can wear anything you want. But for Emirates market, you must dress modestly and according to the traditions guiding the community.
I will share my other experiences soon. In all these, I was able to capture really beautiful sunsets. They were so warm and calming. The beautiful sunset was the highlight of my trip. I hope they continue to stay beautiful and warm.
But I am very happy to be back home. There was hardly light in Ilorin and I was unable to come online and share my experiences.
Now that I am back, I will show you everything I saw.
