Rock the Witness Vote! Together Our Voice Matters!steemCreated with Sketch.

If you read, write and upvote posts, you should vote for Witnesses. It's quicker than those activities. But who?

List of witnesses: https://steemd.com/witnesses

If you are very new to Steemit, you may not know what Witnesses do. The EZ non-technical explanation is that Witnesses keep Steemit running. Most of them are, and have been for a long time, invested in the success of Steemit and the value of Steem currencies and vests. They work on self-initiated programs for Steemit.

The technical aspect doesn't matter from pespective for end-users. Steemit Inc. has built-in incentives for Witnesses to have optimal technology in the way that system is set up. You can read in the Whitepaper search term 'witness'.

Not everyone is using their votes! Yes, your vote does matter! They all add up.

The top 19 Witnesses get the most SP, to my basic understanding. It is good to be on top! The top 19 are decided by our votes!!!! Many are good at creating initiatives that are good for us End-Users, but not all witnesses are the best at self-promotion for our votes. So let's do that for them. The more SP they get the more curation power and funds for projects our favourite witnesses will have!

Mining Rewards require Steem Power After the first month, Steem miners are paid in Steem Power (SP). SP is liquidated through the two-year process of “powering down.” This means that miners must wait for a long time, likely many months, before sufficient mining rewards have been powered down to allow them to recover the cost of electricity and computational resources.

(from the Steemit Whitepaper)

Maybe you are frustrated right now as your posts aren't earning much and your upvotes don't have weight, but if you have patience and contribute via participation, all of these things could improve for end-users like us. Especially if you do where you have a say, and vote for Witnesses.

How I decide which Witnesses to vote for is from the perspective of someone who is only a user, poster, community member of Steemit. I don't know personally any of the developers involved in Steemit and was not invited by anyone.

Many of you are end-users only, as am I, and I hope I can convince you to vote for Witnesses and make it easier for you to decide!

We can concentrate our efforts! Reply to this topic with who else should get our combined Witness votes!

I believe that fellow end-users of the platform will agree on the same criteria

How I decide what Witnesses to vote for, in a short summary, followed by examples and evidence you can see with your own eyes:

  • The projects they work on
  • Community interaction
  • How active they are at voting, and the type of content they vote for
  • Who people I follow have voted for
  • Diversity
  • You can see posts about what Witnesses are currently doing and what they will do in the future by filtering with the #witness #witness-category tag.

EDIT: See this post by @sykochica https://steemit.com/witness/@sykochica/what-s-a-steem-witness-and-why-should-we-care

I will write a few examples, this is by no means definitive! And maybe new people will run for Witness still.

Projects Make a Difference! They don't make themselves.

For example, @anyx is the creator of Cheetahbot and involved in Steemcleaners. Those programs help to keep plagiarism from receiving payouts that should go to people who post original content. It also warns us against potential scammers, fishers, and the like. Cheetahbot is a needed tool, and does not flag posts without leaving a comment as warning.

@anyx has pledged the steempower earned from Witness will go to Steemcleaners; incentivizes people to upkeep the site. People donate their own time to this and it's good they can be compensated so they can continue the much-needed service.

@nextgencrypto is involved with Project Curie! That's been a huge part of helping original content creators get noticed and get some steem! I think that's aka @berniesanders who does a lot of varied upvoting

If you can't sell/buy steem, SBD, SP, what's the point? @blocktrades for Witness https://blocktrades.us/

How do I know what the whales do?

    Everyone love Whale Watching!

If you haven't heard of these sites, you need to check them out:

http://steemd.com Is where you can find steem stats on yourself and any Steemit account. steemd.com is created by @roadscape who is also a Witness and I added my voted for. proof: https://steemit.com/steemd/@roadscape/steemd

You can go to https://steemd.com/@radioactivities and see who I have voted for Witness so far. Just scroll down to the bottom. Here are my Witness votes:

On catchawhale.com you can see a list of the Whale accounts as well as their last time online, how many votes they make what hour of the day, which are their favoured users and topics to upvote! by @blueorgy

Look, a recipe for Witness pie:

If you are an English Second Language speaker, you can see what Witnesses vote for people who post in your native language.

From #steemit-guides filter, there is this detailed post about Witnesses

    Edit: @jesta makes steemdb.com, steemstats.com, and steempress.io.
I misread from his witness update. Many projects in that one! jesta witness update - full time begins - 2016-10-07 read here: https://steemit.com/witness-category/@jesta/jesta-witness-update-full-time-begins-2016-10-07

Witnesses are rewarded for these qualities, services, and of course running their node by getting powered up by 1 STEEM for each block they produce. By being paid in Steem Power, witnesses are further incentivized to be committed long-term and also to contribute to Steemit curation.

I vote for @smooth.witness because they have a lot of community engagement. The People's Witness!

TL;DR Nobody ever agrees on everything. but you know what, we have 30 votes to use! I still have 10 left! Let's use them all. Let's use them to vote for as many of the same Witnesses as possible!

    Please Resteem, tell the world!

This is a Pay Me 100% in Steempower Post!

If you are a Witness and would like to be added in this vote campaign, leave a reply. If you'd like to advertise work you've done for Steemit, please leave a reply here. Promote yourselves here. Not everyone is great at self-marketing, I hope more exposure can be obtained for those who fall in that category but have been putting lots of work into Steemit-related activities!

    Sort:

Great post, thanks for all the info!

One thing I noticed is that it looks like you said @jesta runs steemd.com. While @jesta makes some of the greatest contributions to the community, that site's not one of them.

I think @roadscape is the developer of steemd.com. I hope you'll change the attribution, and maybe you could mention the projects @jesta does run; steemdb.com, steemstats.com, and steempress.io.

Thank you for that correction! Easy to misread that one! I will change the attribution and ad jesta's. I will check out if @roadscape is the dev for that and then if they are witness vote.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.
@jesta makes steemdb.com, which is really closely named :)
He also makes steemstats.com, which is great for notifications!

Hi @radioactivities - great post! (Resteemed)

One thing to add is users can go here to see the top 100 witnesses. (Steemit.com only shows the top 50.) There are a lot of witnesses who are just starting out and might not be in the top 50 yet, who could really use the votes if you think they are doing a good job!
    https://steemd.com/witnesses

The ones that are crossed out have suspended their witness accounts, so you should skip voting on those.

Also, a great way to learn more about witnesses is to read their "witness application" posts. There are links to these on both the Steemit and Steemd witness pages.

Thanks. I hope to get more people who havent really voted to continue. Many take the time to write about steemit problems, yet dont vote for witnesses! @sykochica is doing a good promotional job of it too

edit: I dont have the greatest influence but hope for a ripple effect

maybe someone can make votes for supended accounts magically disappear to reappear in their vote count. :D

Well there are different reasons to suspend your account. Most of the high up witnesses will have multiple redundant servers, but a lot of the lower ones will only have one. If they are going to go on vacation and don't want to have to worry about their server going down (and missing blocks) while they are gone, they may temporary disable their account. I turn mine off (for just a moment) any time I'm going to do updates on the server that could potentially cause it to go down, then turn it back on once I am done.

Unfortunately the votes are weighted just like the votes for the posts. Also I don't agree with a lot of the people you voted for. In my opinion some of those accounts have caused some of the biggest issues on Steemit.

One of the biggest problems in steemit is the inequality of curation power. Those who have lots of money get more of it but those who don't have it won't get anything but little scraps.

It's true, but it's still worth voting.

Steemit would have bombed if the voting power was distributed more equally. In it's infancy, it is best there is this discrepency. Many people who dont care about being content creators would have done it just to make money. Nobody would power up, jut like now.

I don't think the main point of this post was who @radioactives votes for. It is that you should pay attention and decide on your own who you want to vote for.

What issues? Curation issues or other things? I'd like to hear your opinion

Hi @radioactivities, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads today and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.

thanks for reading and voting! hope to see you vote for witnesses! thanks to steemd.com it makes it easy for us muggles to see who votes!

@radioactivities - you inspired this one!

Good, then we'll sink like the other 100% of pre-mined cryptos have: Auroracoin, Hitcoin, Mazacoin, Titcoin, Wankcoin etc etc...(P.S. This meme has been posted into the Shremster timeline too!)

a lot of steemits problems are discussed in the whitepaper with detail.

Eliminating “abuse” is not possible and shouldn’t be the goal. Even those who are attempting
to “abuse” the system are still doing work. Any compensation they get for their successful
attempts at abuse or collusion is at least as valuable for the purpose of distributing the
currency as the make-work system employed by traditional Bitcoin mining or the collusive
mining done via mining pools. All that is necessary is to ensure that abuse isn’t so rampant
that it undermines the incentive to do real work in support of the community and its
    currency.

anyways, back to the fun posts.

All I see is ranting. I watched his debate vid on youtube. Now just calling somene a 'bitcoin maximalist' doesnt negate their logic, but I do think he is just ranting. I understand the cynicism towards new coins...ultimately, the same could be said for any new bitcoin application. "Just put bitcoin in it" really.

Overall I enjoy the niche audience/community here on Steemit. Economic crap aside. SBD is 1.23$ bitcoin worth of canuck $ on changelly still.
