Happy Belated Steemit Birthday/Anniversary for Me - June 12 - My 1 Year Anniversary
Happ Steemit Birthday To Me
Hey guys, for any of you who don't know me my name is Johnny, @RulesForRebels here on Steemit. I knew my Steemit Anniversary was comming up soon, but wasn't sure about the exact date, for some reason I was thinking June 17. I actually made a post asking if anyone knew how to find your Steemit account creation date and @goldendawne was kind enough to tell me. She suggested looking on SteemWorld.Org and also said it shows at the top of the eSteem app as well. Thank you @goldendawne for that.
So it's been a whole year, time flies, I actually remember creating my account. Some of my Youtube audience had been telling me to get on Steemit. I had tried Minds.Org and some other similar sites and hadn't been impressed so I was hesitant to try something new. Eventually after a few of my Youtube subscribers being persistant I took the plunge and signed up. I remember the evening I signed up, I believe it was a Wednesday when I created my account. I think it took about 2 days to get approved, I believe I made my first post on the 14th. I remember it was like a Thursday night. During the summer my business partner and I do summer hours and each take a day off so I had the next day off so was staying up late playing around on the computer and smoking a joint. I decided to make my introduction post. I can't find the picture but I think I was laying on my kitchen floor with my hair crazy and put the post in my intro post introducing myself.
I was very intrigued by the platform. I loved the idea I could be paid for creating content and really felt a strong sense of community here. Some of my Youtube subscribers were my early support on here, as well as @brianphobos who I often credit with giving me a warm welcome and helping give me a little leg up to get started, he does that for a lot of people and is a valuable member of this community.
I think within my first week or two I had my highest earning post ever which was like $76 and it was simply me asking a question about how earnings work. It always seems funny to me that after having been on here over a year and created hundreds of posts, some pouring my heart out, others pouring my time and energy into and longform content, I've never come close to making that much or even close to it again.
Over the past year the price of Steem as well as the platform itself has had it's ups and downs. At times I've loved the platform and thought this is the best thing ever. At other times I've kind of said fuck this platform, it's bullshit. I've never given up though, I've stuck around. Partly because I still believe in this platform long term, but more so because of the friends I've made on here and the creators who's content I really enjoy @kenanqhd , @brianphobos , @reseller , @rawpride , @harleymechanix , @stackin , @streetstyle , @robertandrew , @mitchyb , @tolkatore , @lauram , @kokomadeta , @rosargelisperez , @Darrylnyk , @cryptostache , and so many others.
Right now I'm active on Steemit, but a bit tuned out to the crypto space. While I'm still up money and in the green, considering where prices were back in December and having not taken much profits I lost a shitton of money, were talking like buy a house money so decided a few months back to kind of tune out until after summer. I'm not gonna sell at these lows, and I'm not actively trading so I figure why even pay attention to it. I used to follow Youtube, Reddit, read up on cryptos on here all day everyday so it's a vast departure from how I used to be. Oddly enough I don't really miss it.
Part of me wonders if we'll ever see the hype and interest we saw back in December of 2017. While things in the crypto space can change fast and skyrocket fast, I can't for the life of me figure out what we would need to drive that type of hype and mainstream attention again. I think were looking at a slow, steady continual growth for the next few years just like the stock market and other more traditional investments. I personally don't expect to see 7000% gains like we were last year.
Because of the lack of excitement and hype in the cryptospace, that's translated into a lack of excitement and activity on here as well. I've heard that from a number of people, most recently I was talking to @emmyem84 who has only been on a short time and was doing incredibly well, but only posts about once a month now. She told me she's kind of lost faith in crypto and thus kind of lost interest on here. I've seen similar things happen with a lot of people I used to enjoy following.
That kinda makes me ask the question, can Steemit survive even if crypto as a whole kind of loses Steem? Personally I think it can.
Anyhow, I digress, I've gotten a bit off topic and am kind of rambling now.
Anyhow, it's been a year, it's been a fun year, I've made a lot of great relationships, consumed a lot of great content, made a bit of money, had some fun on here. I'm planning on sticking around for the long haul and am curious to see how this platform grows and developes and changes. I look forward to continuing to consume your guys content and wanted to thank everyone for a great year.
Johnny
Happy anniversary homie!
Don't loose faith in the cryptos. Its an ideological war. The financial side is just one aspect of it. We all have grown older and wiser and most folks who had no experience in finance (much less fintech) have learned the new ropes. Myself included.
With these lows I am trying to hustle as much cash as I can and still maintain so I can buy more. I have added to my stacks and not thought twice about it. Think in terms of satoshis and not in dollars and you are ahead of the curve.
Especially with STEEM and the steemit platform. Think of it this way. There is less competition right now when the token is down. That means the post thats $.86 will be worth way more that that when STEEM is at $10 or $20.
With all of massive development and interest and institutional money coming in its just a matter of time.
Ron Swanson said it best.
Either crypto. Or don't.
(within your comfort zone, of course)
Thanks for getting me into the site, crypto, and for being a constant inspiration. You're great, Johnny!
I just now read this. Kind of catching up on people's blog posts. Thanks for the shout out man. I remember when you showed up here and that was a big moment because I noticed you talking about you talking about crypto for awhile on your YouTube channel and I sort of told myself when yourself and others talk about Steemit that is when it is getting more real. Then you showed up. It was pretty crazy.
As far as crypto hype. We haven't seen anything yet. Only like 1.5% of the world population owns crypto or something insane like that. When more and more people flow in the next boom the roar will get louder and trillions will flow in.
There will become a day again when the lights at the exchanges will be flickering and the walls will be shaking like a train is going by.
Thanks for the shout out dude! Congrats on your 1 year anniversary. I'm quickly approaching my one year anniversary as well and I joined this platform because of you. I need to get me some pineapple shorts as well.
I agree with you in that crypto is not really interesting anymore. There isn't much hype or mainstream attention and I usually feel like we won't ever get back into such a bullish market like we did last year. Things needs to develop and companies need to actually start implementing their ideas. In 2017, whitepapers were enough to get people ready to invest. Now, I think people have seen how badly burnt you can get from that so they are becoming more cautious and we need to see those promises implemented before people get excited about crypto again. Also, I'd like to see prices of altcoins not be so heavily influenced by the price of bitcoin. Whenever BTC goes down, everything else goes down. It would be nice of people could distinguish between them all.
Good luck in the future. You need to try out DTube or DLive man! That will probably drastically increase your earnings here.
EDIT: Oh shit! My Steemit anniversary is June 15th!!!!!
haha that's awesome we joined within like a day or two of one another. It seemed like Steemit was really growing last June because I've seen a number of people mention June was their first month, I think @cryptostache joined right around the same time as us as well as many others.
Glad you like my shorts lol, picked them up at Old Navy for pretty cheap, I'll probably go grab a couple more pairs as I really like them, there swim trunks actually but I sometimes rock them as shorts.
I'm with you, I'm by no means saying crypto is done, far from it I think it has a bright future but I really question we'll ever see the hype of 2017, I think it may have been kind of a once in a lifetime thing. Crypto could grow but much more steadily. I think the only thing that could really throw things into overdrive and stir up some hype is if an ETF gets approved in which case potentially a lot of mainstream money could come pouring in very quickly, however even if that happenned tomorrow part of me questions whether mainstream "normie" money even really cares about crypto anymore.
I'm not really following crypto at all these days but I saw a headline within the past couple days that the SEC ruled Bitcoin wasn't a security. Not sure if that's big news or if that's just something we've all kind of known but its being more formally announced.
Again, I havn't been following things too closely the past few months but I thought I heard some announcement some decent sized exchange maybe a Bittrex or a Poloniex was going to be doing USD pairings soon which I think would mean alts no longer would be so reliant on Bitcoins price or so heavily affected by it.
I just looked at my calendar, so tomorrow is your anniversary. I'm heading out paddleboarding on lake michigan tomorrow so if I don't happen to make it back onto steemit tomorrow wishing you an early happy steemit anniversary. Your growth on here has been very inspiring so congrats on that its really amazing and really shows anyone who whines about steemit, myself included lol, just needs to put in the work and create interesting content because you prove that it can be done.
I know I keep saying it but I know I have to give dtube and dlive a chance.. Trying to get some things together with my yotuube channel and my blog and working on a few shopify store projects but once that stuff gets done im gonna buckle down and give dtube and dlive a shot.
Anyhow, super happy for all your success on here brother and appreciate all the support. Thanks again!!!
I think your subscribers were right to invite you to the world of Steemit. I also came at the recommendation of a friend and at first I did not give importance, then one day I decided to register and my idea of the page changed. I think you had an impulse at the beginning and that helped you a lot.
Congratulations on your anniversary and I have no doubt that we will be able to see how Steemit continues to advance or how it will be in a few months and years.
