Steemit relies on users to curate the best content. The upvote function allows us to do that & how influential your upvote is depends on the amount of Steem power you have.
A part of a post's reward is set aside for the curators who recieve a share when the post has reached 7 days.
You get 10 full upvotes a day, after which your vote power begins to diminish. The regeneration rate is around 20% a day.
