I think they are serving different purposes. Facebook is focused on sharing things with friends, or a select subset of people. Reddit is more public, more psuedo-anonymous and focuses on content creation and curation.

I see Steemit directly serves the reddit purpose, but much less plays within Facebook's wheelhouse .
