On the shoulders of plankton... dreaming of minnowhood
[source]
See those little guys up there?
Those are the minnows, the little fish.
I'm so tantalisingly close to being one of them. Swimming the currents of Steemit, moving with the shoal and feeding on posts, dreaming of becoming a big fish... even a whale!
But aren't all small accounts minnows?
No my friend, us really small accounts are known as "plankton", and we aren't nearly as majestic. Carried by the current rather than swimming through it, food for the bigger fish.
Not all of us will survive ... some will quit.
Eyes on the Prize
The New Year has come and gone. Gym memberships have been bought and are already gathering dust. Those quitting junk food are already hiding McDonalds wrappers. The world continues to turn...
I have many aims for 2018 (I wrote about them here) but one, in particular, is going to take tenacity and dedication. I don't want to be a plankton anymore!
Day 0
I started the New Year, if not exactly then close enough, on 380 Steem Power.
I'm proud of that figure, I've worked for that figure and I haven't taken a single penny out of Steemit to this day. I'm hoping that will change this year (the part about spending Steem, not the work or the pride!). I want to buy something with Steem, I want to feel the fruits of my labour in my own hands, not on the screen. But if I spend it, I'll always be a plankton!
Some brief Maths
I need 500 Steem Power to become a minnow. I'm at 380, that's a shortfall of... ~drumroll~ 120 Steem Power.
I'm giving myself the full year to achieve this aim meaning I need to gain 120/365, 0.329 Steem Power per day, without spending any of it, to reach my aim.
The Plan
If I can make the 0.329 Steem Power through raw Steem Power rewards then I can use the SBD to pay myself. If I'm not generating that amount of Steem Power then I'll have to dip into my SBD reserves or fall behind.
I have no doubt this plan will change in the coming weeks!
Day 5
I've withdrawn nothing and today was my first proper post payout, not just comments or curration, I started posting again 7 days ago (here).
Right now I stand at 381.12, that's 1.12/5 or 0.22 Steem Power per day so far. I'm behind :(
However, that's with only 1 post paid out so far and I have several more pending. I'm not about to sacrifice my SBD yet, lets give it another week.
Round up
In short, I'll happily rate this week's endeavours with a Thor "Not Bad".
I'm sure there are some out there who are looking at my goal and thinking I'm not setting my sights high enough. To that I would say, if I hit this early fantastic, I'll set a new goal then. I wanted to pick something I felt was achievable though, 2017 was a hard enough year without setting myself up to fail by saying something like 5000 Steam Power and falling flat on my face. Besides, it's not all about the money, it's about the journey!
I've been your host @stormriderstudio. Please tip your waitress, they work really hard but mostly because it's also me - we're pretty short staffed around here and these heels are killing me!
Until next time, Adios!
Keep it up! We'll be minnow in no time! :D
Just gotta keep at it and keep the dream alive!
It's not always all play, gotta put the work in!
I see you! Don't give up! :D
When STEEM was under $1, minnow status seemed achievable. Now it must look very distant for a new user. I like how we're referring to STEEM under $1 as if it's ancient history... it was just a few weeks ago! @ironshield
Keep at, keep posting, keep commenting, you will be there in no time.
Hope this upvote helps. And thank you taking my post to PYPT.
@stormriderstudio payed 1.0 SBD to @minnowbooster to buy a stealth upvote.
