I don't even want to imagine what a cesspool this place would turn into without flagging.

Oh I read it. I think it would destroy STEEM. They are not your rewards until after 7 days.
If flagging didn’t remove rewards there would be no point. If there was no flags there would be 99.999% spam instead of 98% we have now.
