Spam on Steem is getting more creative to try and compete with "proof of brain"
As more people join steemit every day, its interesting to see how spam accounts that comment on whale's posts are evolving. It is even more ironic to see how many of these accounts are going about the continuation of their spamming.
To be sure, the same one word comment spam accounts are still out there, but others are posting longer comments to attempt to get the same up votes that valid comments in response to the material would garner. What is even more ironic is how many of these more sophisticated spam accounts actually have a higher ranking than many users, myself included, that actually try and add to the community and have meaningful interactions where gainful knowledge is shared. These longer pointless comments, lately something about friendship, or repeating the same few words several times, undoubtedly makes it harder for steemcleaners to keep them out.
It appears that manually giving them negatives, something else that I have noticed being done, is the only current way to combat the new spam. In a way, its kind of cool being able to watch this new ecosystem develop before our eyes. I realize right now that I have a low delegation of SP, but I am fine with that. I do believe in earning position after all, and being rewarded for effort put in. It remains to be seen though what the final solution to these more sophisticated spam will be.

Spam only works if people make money from it. Otherwise they stop.
The trick is to stop giving them votes and money (which is hard with bots who upvote lots)
That's still okay though. 70% of steem is still good content. Yes, we have 30% of spam, but they are not winning.
Agreed, the trick I think is to somehow stop rewarding the bots that just upvote for curation rewards and in turn just reward the bots like you said. Over all though its a good place, and I can read new cool stuff which is the main thing I care about.
You have a low amount of SP compared to other steemians.
You have an insane amount of SP compared to 99.999% of humanity :)
This is very true haha, my recent bumps in rank are all due entirely to you, so I thank you for that.
It's a good time to make friends, particularly with people in that top .01% ;)
