Steemit Statistics & Big Data: 🚀 End of April 2018 Update 🚀

in #steemit7 years ago

Thanks to ALL of you, Steemit is growing fast!

We reached 32.9 mn visits in April!

There is an important difference between total visitors to a site and unique ones. In this case the 32.9mn include the multiple times a person visited the website.

Therefore, as a good Steemian you probably connect everyday which will make you count for a total of 30 visits.
Therefore, how many "unique users" does Steemit has?

This is a very important question that I will try to answer later on. According to the Beta Analysis from the website I use to compile these datas, it is around 14,73mn !

I] Traffic

Daily Steemit Traffic

On average Steemit had 1mn+ visits per day in April !

It is still below Traffic we experienced in January but an explanation could be that people spend more time on apps (Steepshot, Dtube, eSteem…) which are not accounted in this analysis.

Steemit website is ranked 1,445 worldwide vs 1,109 last month
Steemit is ranked 1,579 in the US
Steemit kept on improving its ranking as it ranked 15,000+ last year.

Google Trends

Google Trend is an Indice based on 100, which means that 100 represents the week when most people searched for "Steemit" on Google.

We have clearly been stable for the past weeks which is a very positive sign, we could now enter another growth period.

Steemit Traffic share by country

In the Top 5, the strongest traffic came from Germany with +3% visits! Other countries were still decreasing

Mobile Traffic is catching up fast as it represents 41% of the total

This is useful to know how people use the Steem platform. Initiatives like eSteem (mobile app), Busy.org, SteepShot (Instagram), Zappl (Twitter like), utopian-io… will probably help the community to grow on mobile phones.

Be Careful with the Number of Visits

Also, remember that if you connect from a different device (home/work computer, mobile phone, tablet) you will count as a "new visitor" on each of these devices.
So as an example, let's say you connected at home, at work and in the subway. You would represent 3 visits out of these 1mn+ Daily Visits.

II] Marketing Mix

Organic Search is once again improving and represents 49,5% of the incoming Traffic.
Organic search is when people research on Google. As the number of quality bloggers on Steemit increase, our content has a higher probability of being listed in Google's Top results.

Different Channels:

Direct: When you type in you Web browser www.steemit.com
Mail: When you connect to steemit.com through an e-mail link
Referrals: When you connect to steemit.com through a link found on another website (github...)

Organic Search: When you type a search term like "Crypto" on Google and you click on one of the following steemit link proposed to you

Traffic Share Evolution during the last 9 months

The Organic Search Strategy which means the Content Strategy is working as people come across Steemit looking for Crypto, Blog, Travel, etc… related articles.

Referring Social Pages

Twitter represents 34.5% of all the social platform incoming traffic. Reddit is also a strong source of new visits on the Steemit Platform. Last week, Facebook was the first Social Media to bring traffic to Steemit.com

III] Steemit website metrics

You feel a bit confused about these 3 metrics? Let me explain.

  • Bounce Rate is the % of people that leave the Website after just navigating on a single Webpage. The lower, the Better
  • Daily Pageviews per Visitor is the average number of pages a visitor opens. The Higher, the Better
  • Daily Time on Site is the full time a visitor spend on the website before closing the internet Webpage. The Higher the Better

My April assumptions

  • Total visits to Steemit.com: 32,9mn
  • Assumption of Total unique visitors in March: 10-14mn
  • Total Daily visitors: 1-1.1mn
  • Assumption of Total Daily Unique visitors: 550-650k

This is a collective achievement and I would like to congratulate all of us!

A kind message means already a lot to me...

Thanks for summarizing all the data. It is interesting to know that there is plenty of users going to steemit in US, but surprising that there is not that many US groups on the platform or as popular as other countries. Maybe I did not search hard enough?

The point you make regarding to mobile and desktop activities are separate counts toward total activity is concerning. This would mean data maybe overstated as to the real amount of users on this platform. I mean I think a lot of people who use steemit have both types of devices, at least in develop world that is. Wish there is a data point to see how many there are?

Also does the numbers factor in bots upvoting and commenting on posts? I would assume it does not considering they are just programs that can be set to automate on its own. Just wondering if bot activities were also apart of this data which if it is means more inflated values. Thanks.

Thank you for you comment @mawit07.
Concerning 1) I also agree that I didn't see a lot of US communities, I also find this quite weird.
Concerning your 2); It is definitely overstated and I wish there was a way to know exactly the number of users are even "unique visitors" does not mean different people.

I do not believe these numbers take bots into account. They should not be part of these metrics.

Take care my dear.

Nice report, but I think that chart shows that India, not Germany showed growth? I would imagine that trend would hold true for other nations too where developing economies would still show interest in Steemit even at these price levels.

Thank you for the help on the Germany/India mistake.
Steemit growth is all about momentum and this is very locally driven.
Take care.

Thanks for this report @vlemon!
I hope that this year we reach at least 2M active users.
Steem On!

Thank you for your comment. We need to do better to not be outrun by competitors :).

Thats really good news! Steemit is growing giving opportunity for investors, developers and people who want to change their lives. I can only hope that all problems here like spam, phishing and whales wars get over soon.
I like the way you summarized the data, keep up the good work :)

Thank you very much for the support. Take care
