For Sweden, the breakthrough success of the quarter-finals makes them one step closer to reaching places in the semifinals. Sweden's best practice in the World Cup was runner-up in 1958. As for England, it brought them closer to a long wait since becoming 1966 world champion. In 1990, their move was only to the semi-finals and had to settle for fourth place.
