SHRPA'S LEARNING JOURNEY: Managing HR Data & Presentation Using Advance Excel & Powerpoint
Once again SHRPA (Society of Human Resource Professionals and Associates) conducted a 2nd learning journey which focused in HR Data and presentation yesterday at Mix International Restaurant in Hilton Hotel. Thanks to our guest speaker, Mr. Michael Olano for a fruitful discussion which surely gave us additional knowledge in using excel sheet like a pro.
Aside from excel sheet learning we had also a brief discussion about entrepreneurship and financial literacy from one of our sponsor, Filpera, an unbiased independent financial advisor that aims to educates the Overseas Filipino market in the UAE. But before they started their presentation, we had a quick board games that will made us understand more how to manage our finances base in reality. The game was called Cashflow, a game designed by investor, businessman, and self-help author Robert Kiyosaki to serve as a tool for learning basic financial strategies and accounting principles.
The board has two tracks: A "Rat Race" small circle where you only roll one die to advance, and a "Fast Track" where you roll two dice to advance. In the Rat Race you get paid for passing your Paycheck space, and then draw from one of four decks of cards depending on which space you've landed. Some of the deals are good, others are bad. Your main problem here is a shortage of cash. In the Fast Track your main problem is an excess of cash and finding investments to sink it into before you lose it to lawsuits, divorce or tax audits.
The heart of the game though are the player sheets where players learn how to fill out a financial statement. Players choose from a variety of starting careers (Truck Driver, Mechanic, Lawyer, Airline Pilot, etc.) and fill out their financial sheets appropriately.
As they land cards and invest in different deals they dutifully log each change to their financial sheets as well. The goal is to earn, save and get out of the rat race. The more income, savings and investment you got will declare as winner.
We really had fun in playing this game and honestly, it was an eye-opener to all of us. We realized how difficult life really is and how hard to take risk into something when it comes to our finances. That's what Filpera explained to us, the truth and reality we are dealing with everyday.
It was such a privilege to have a financial insight of our future from which we all struggles and believe me, when I see my financial status after eight years, I was so sad. So I realize that I really need their help to assist me in handling all my finances, meanwhile I have to focus first on having an extra income. How about you, how's your finances? By this time you should know how to manage it well to secure your future specially when you decided to retire or go back in the Philippines for good. Time run so fast, let's plan ahead and get advise from the experts. To know more about Filpera and what they offer, just visit their website www.filpera.com
Thanks to my SHRPA family for their initiative to organize this kind of learning journey. It really tap and hone our skills which helps us to elevate more. We are looking forward for many lessons to come, next topic will be more interesting as it will discuss about UAE/Philippine labour law updates.
