This was a chance find as I was on my way to an abandoned chapel; it was by chance that I had parked up in a laybye to answer a call of nature when I spotted the roofline through the trees.
Well it would be rude not to..........
The building was quite large with an annexed bungalow at the rear, it didn’t take long to find a way in to both. All rooms were cluttered but fortunately not vandalised.
So much personal history here in photographs and personal effects. The contents were bereft of anything that could be owned by a man or a child, was the last inhabitant “the spinster of the parish”?
The photographs tell of a wealthy family, cruising the West Indies in 1949, glamorous wedding shots and well clothed children. Accounts from 1939, show they had a telephone, a luxury in those days, wages paid out monies owed.
1995, the calendar on the wall and the invite to the Churchill Club, were the latest dated things to be seen; though it is hard to see this house being empty for 24 years.

Reminds a bit of the cottage we inherited after it had been empty for a few years. It was stuck in a timewarp, but we renovated it throughout. You would expect to find some more recent papers or something if it had been occupied recently. Seem to be typewriters in a lot of places you visit. My parents had an old one I used to play with. It got donated to the Imperial War Museum.
@steevc these beautiful time warps usually have either typewriters or pianos, oh and the occasional sewing machine.
I wonder if in the future UE’s will find Apple Macs, playstations and ULED tellies 😂
Our place has a piano, but it was not playable. There were 78 records too. We kept some stuff including some postcard albums and photos, but we don't know who all the people are.
