Dark Energy Crystals have entered the Splinterlands and offer a variety of possibilities for players to create more value for themselves and the entire ecosystem. In this post, the Crypto Dwarf is analyzing the current value of the new crystals and how you can earn them with gold foil cards.

DEC Market.jpg

The market price for Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) is currently at about 0.00237 Steem for the cheapest offer. There is also a great need for DEC on the market, with buy orders for hundreds of thousands DEC, in a price range of 0.00224 down to 0.00200. That is an impressive amount for an in-game token that just came out two days ago and is being constantly created anew for all winning players.

Legendary Gold Foil

The legendary gold foil cards from the new Promo Set are worth 187,500 DEC, when converted. That is worth about 450 Steem, when sold as DEC on the market for 0.0024 Steem per DEC.

This basically means, that if you find a legendary gold foil card from the new Promo Set for less than $181.8 (with a Steem price of $0.404).

Careful: Legendary gold foil cards from the other editions will bring less DEC per card and are hence less valuable from a pure DEC perspective. I got 75,000 DEC for a gold foil legendary Reward card.

Epic Gold Foil

The epic gold foil cards from the Reward Set, that you can earn with daily quests, are worth 15,000 DEC, when converted (sorry, I had no epic gf card from the new Promo Set to check its value, which will be higher than the reward cards).

That is worth 36 Steem, when sold as DEC, which is worth $14,54 (at the current Steem price of $0.404). Personally, I rather convert my last reward epic gold foil into DEC, as I will probably get better cards through the DEC Orbs or I sell the DEC directly and get as much as the card is worth anyways but with a higher chance of selling it, as more people have a demand for the DEC token, than for one single - and expensive - card.

On the other hand, I do have epic gold foil cards with Beta summoners (also worth 15,000 DEC), who will hopefully become more expensive over time, so I will keep them. I also have one last epic gold foil card from the Kickstarter campaign, worth 30,000 DEC. That is about $29, when converted to DEC - not worth it as the card is selling over $65.

Rare Gold Foil

For the new rare gold foil cards of the Orb set, we get 7,500 DEC, which is about 6 Steem (at 0.0024 Steem per DEC) or $2.42 (at $0.404 per Steem).

Common Gold Foil

The new common gold foil cards bring 1,875 DEC, when converted. That is 4.5 Steem (at 0.0024 Steem per DEC) or $1.81 (at $0.404 per Steem).

Considering that all common gold foils from the Orb set are currently worth more than that, it would not be worth converting them into Dark Energy Crystals.

Common gold foil reward cards bring 750 DEC, when converted. That is 1.8 Steem (at 0.0024 Steem per DEC) or $0.72 (at $0.404 per Steem). No wonder all these cheap twenty cents common gold foil cards from the rewards set all shot up to up to $0.70 and higher basically over night.

Sell or Convert to DEC?

The answer is relatively easy: If you want to quickly get rid of some cards, that you would otherwise not sell at their current market price (or even higher) any time soon and you would get an equal or higher value in DEC - than burn them! It will be good for the entire ecosystem as well, as the supply is forever being lowered for those cards, driving up the price of all remaining ones. But make sure you calculate wisely and take into consideration, that prices are still finding themselves and my used examples might go up and down very soon. Maybe it is good to wait a little bit and see where the market stabilizes and then calculate anew.

Extra Tip: You get 5% extra DEC for converting maximum level cards!

By the way, you can convert your DEC and Orbs also into Tron tokens and trade them on their network.

All-in-all a marvelous update for the already amazing Splinterlands. It is a pleasure to be an early adopter of this revolutionary game and see it grow into its full potential.
