24 year old England midfielder, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to miss this summer’s world cup fiesta in Russia, following a knee ligament injury he suffered during Liverpool’s 5 – 2 victory against Roma on Tuesday.
The Liverpool star who has found his footing in Jurgen Klopp’s formidable side suffered the injury as Liverpool temporarily took charge of their Champions League semi-final first leg tie against the Italian side, Roma, at Anfield.

Oxlade-Chamberlain went for a challenge against former Manchester City full back, Aleksandar Kolarov – now with Roma – when he suffered the injury and was stretchered off the pitch after just 15 minutes during their encounter on Tuesday.
After undergoing a scan on Wednesday it was revealed that he had suffered a knee ligament injury. The 24-year old stated that he was devastated to have suffered the injury at such a peculiar and crucial time of the season and year.

The England manager, Gareth Southgate has been intimated about the extent of the injury, and it is clear that Oxlade-Chamberlain would miss the remainder of the season with Liverpool, as well as the Russia 2018 World Cup with England, according to a statement by Liverpool.
The former Arsenal man has been capped 32 times by England and would play no part for the three-lions as they navigate through their Group G oppositions – Belgium, Panama and Tunisia – at the World Cup, which begins on 14 June.

So far this season, Chamberlain has made 41 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and has scored 5 goals, following his £35m move from Arsenal to the Anfield–based side.
There has been no specific return date set for Oxlade-Chamberlain by Liverpool, but it is expected that he would now commence his rehabilitation to aid his return to full fitness as soon as practicably possible, for action next season.
Liverpool who beat Roma 5 – 2 in their semi-final first leg tie in the UEFA Champions League, plays the return leg next Wednesday in Italy.
