The good and bad side of ONIONS (Allium cepa)
Hello steemians, happy new month to you all!!!
The number of people that were killed by flu was about 40 million in the year 1919.As a result of the flu,a very large number if farmers died with their families included.
Due to the death toll,a skilled medical personnel visited the affected farmers to see whether he could be of help to counter the dreadful flu in their favor. Fortunately, he found out that, one of the farmers and his family was strong, sound and healthy with not even a trace of the flu. Then, the doctor decided to do some investigation as in regards to why this particular farmer and his family was exempted from the dreadful flu. After the investigation,he discovered that one of the farmers wife had put an unpeeled onion in a dish and placed them in all the rooms in their house. Then, the doctor, thinking that, that could have been the cure for the dreadful flu decided to place one of those onions under a microscope. Amazingly, he discovered that, the onion had obviously absorbed all the bacteria that caused the flu and had kept the farmer and his family in good health.
The good side of onion is powerful absorption of bacteria which helps to prevent the body from getting infected from colds, flu and also helps to better the conditions of persons suffering from pneumonia, most specially the raw or uncooked ones, though there are other health benefits apart from the few mentioned above.
The bad side of onions is that,it becomes a poison to the body system when used as a left over. The whole bulb of onion should be consumed each time it is cut, preserving the cut piece even in a refrigerator would not prevent the onion from absorbing bacteria. This can cause adverse stomach infection due to excess secretion of bile.It can also cause food poisoning and also poisonous to Dogs as their system cannot metabolize it.
