My daughter enjoys Grace and Frankie on Netflix..ANOTHER FIRESIDE CHAT
I walked in on her watching this show Grace and Frankie on Netflix. I sat down for a minute. I try to keep an open mind about what my children do.
I'm .....old fashioned.
Yeah, that's the correct terminology, I believe. I don't agree with much of what is on offer for entertainment, but like I said, I try to keep an open mind. Some of the things everyone else likes, I just can't see eye to eye with. I'm trying to put this this in a way that won't run people off, trying to be diplomatic. I could spend the next hour beating around the bush, but I think that would be dishonest to you and more importantly to myself. So, I'll just say what I'm thinking. Cutting to the chase.
I'm a die hard conservative. I don't like what actors have done to the country and to their profession. There are a lot of things I disagree with. Jane Fonda is one. That being said, I found myself enjoying watching her work. I enjoyed her in "9 to 5", I enjoyed her in "Barbarella" and annoyingly enough I am enjoying her in "Grace and Frankie". I can separate the conflicting ideals in my mind, her politics and her acting, but that's just something I have to deal with on my own.
Now, to the meat. Grace and Frankie is funny, it's unusual, it's really well written and highly recommend it, if someone is like me. Someone who can have two conflicting ideas in their head at the same time and still be okay. I would not pay to see this show, I am but I'm not. I'm paying Netflix for access to other shows, this was just something they added to the lineup. My daughter found it, we started watching it together, then my wife started watching it with us. It's a rarity for us all to be sitting in on the same show at the same time.
It's a dramady, comedy/sitcom about two elderly gentlemen who fell in love, got divorced from their wives and got married. Their wives started hanging out together and now there's situations where the two couples are interacting regularly. They have kids/adults and grandchildren involved from time to time. I've missed a lot of episodes. My daughter kept watching after I went to bed and got busy doing other things.
Now, this coming from a die-hard conservative, Christian, married man with children should be quite the recommendation for anyone. Like I said, though, I try to keep an open mind on things. I found myself inexorably pulled into the story. I'm not binging on it..yet, but I may still do that. I've seen enough to know that this show is something quite special, thus the post/recommendation. So, if you're like me and you've been avoiding watching it, give it a chance. That's pretty much all I have to say on the subject.
Much love and light,
X
P.S.
The open mind is because with it I have become a better person. Life works in mysterious ways and it's best not to miss out on any of it, even if it contradicts your personal values at times.
Great great narrative!!! Like yourself, I'm a die hard conservative. Old school perhaps. I've also had to learn to keep an open my with my kids, whom are now adults.
Perspectives and Influences may change over time....but our core values are for life!
Exactly right, my friend. Thank you.
Much love and light,
X

I totally agree with you... probably on most things. 😉
However, fair warning: I, too, enjoyed the first Season and into the second. However, I feel like it suddenly changed (or at least the last episode I watched was enough to not make me want to see what happens next).
Honestly, I feel I like I should go back and see what happened. I have a sneaking suspicion...
I've also been turned off of actors as of late... but that doesn't stop me from enjoying their ACTUAL skill- acting.
Full disclosure: I went to school for ... acting (A BFA in Theatre Performance). I can appreciate it when someone is able to draw me in and suspend my disbelief enough to want to go on the ride with them.😀
THANK YOU! Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I think they were in second season when I got up to do laundry and things went bad real quick, but idk I haven't seen it all, just parts. What I did see of it I enjoyed.
It actually is pretty good. I used to watch it with my daughter and really enjoyed it. I'm not a big J Fonda fan either but she is likable in the show. Haven't caught the newest season though!
Apparently things went down hill in second season, but idk, I got up to do laundry and then I heard things taking a turn for the worse. I'll go back and see more later.
Love,

Of all the labels you used to describe yourself Open-minded is key. I have watched this show and found it a mind opener. Love
I try, that's all can do.
😀
For a sitcom it has comedy and open minded thinking. Does not mean we have to become an Archie Bunker. Love
Been so long since I've seen that show, I have forgotten much of it.
Just ribbing you. Have a laugh love. Love for you
😅😂🤣😉
I haven't watched any more of it yet. My wife and daughter finished up the series, what there is of it. I've gotten sucked into this new game. So I haven't adjusted my schedule for seeing anything on Netflix this week. I remember watching Archie Bunker back in the 1970's. It wasn't my thing at the time, it was mostly the adults in the household who enjoyed it. I would sit and wish for more cartoons or LOGAN'S RUN, or Star Wars. It wasn't until this last decade that I developed an interest in drama and sitcoms.
Love,
