3 Lessons Masturbation Can Teach You About Crypto
The record price of Bitcoin has ignited a modern day digital gold rush. Many newcomers are flooding into the arena in hopes of making their next million off Bitcoin. In fact, the exchange Poloniex released a PSA a few weeks ago in regards to their recent influx of new users.
“…Since January, we’ve seen an increase of more than 600% active traders online and regularly process 640% more transactions than we did merely 4 months ago.” (1)
As exciting as it is, it is important to understand just how easy and risky trading Bitcoin can be. Sadly, these uninformed noobs, distracted by shiny bitcoin, will more than likely be swept into a pump-n-dump scheme or worse, get caught up in an alt coin with zero value.
I’ve done it. You’ve done it. They will, too.
We wanted this article to be a reminder of lessons learned, but in a Steemycam kind of way. With over 60% of adults admitting to masturbate regularly, chances are it’s a relatable analogy. (2)
So, as promised here are 3 lessons masturbation can teach us about crypto.
What goes up will eventually come back down.
Just like any other kind of investment, you want to buy low and sell high. The biggest attraction to trading cryptocurrency is its wild fluctuations in price (volatility). In fact, Bitcoin is 10x more volatile than the USD (3). Timing these fluxes in price correctly, could make up to a 20% in just a few days or less.
If you’d like to learn a little bit more about predicting your buys/sells, @quickfingersluc, who is a full-time penny stock trader, posted a great, easy-to-follow tutorial here. In addition to his post, you can also find some valuable tips hidden in the comments!
Fast, safe, and anonymous is desirable.
Blockchains keep everyone honest. They remove the middleman between you and your money. With this, transactions are faster, cheaper, more safe, and (in some chains) anonymous. When evaluating altcoins, it is important to identify the main advantage your coin is tackling. If you can not clearly identify it, chances are it would be hard for other investors to do the same.
It is amazing how much you can learn just by visiting a project’s website. Are they current on their development and socials? Does the design of their site make you take them seriously? The website of the project should be one of your first visits during your evaluation.
For more information on evaluating altcoins, @heiditravels recently posted a mini tutorial on what to look for. She does a great job at breaking down the information in a way that any beginner can understand. You can check that out here..
Practice makes perfect.
Profiting from trading coins is hard to master. In fact, a sure bet is that most lose money. A great piece of advice is to start with a few hundred dollars and grow your trading account from there. After 6 months or so, if you haven’t lost your investment, you will probably start to notice trends and be able to make better predictions about price movements.
There you have it! 3 lessons that masturbation can teach you about crypto. We hope this article has taught you a little bit about trading or at least brought a smile to your face.
