A Vibrant Splash of Violet
I put the camera to my eye for this flower when I happened upon a particularly fine specimen of Salvia, or Sage as it is more commonly called. The flower was making a statement in the field, its vivid violet colour a stark and welcome contrast to the warm gold of the wheat behind it.
One cannot help but be pleased to come across such a bold, cool-toned bloom in a sea of sun-baked grain. The way the plant’s vertical form and intensity stand up against the landscape is quite something; it speaks to the kind of unadorned beauty nature has on offer for those who take the time to notice. In some ways, the photograph is a record of that resilience as the seasons turn, an elegant little story in itself.
These are the sort of details that make one’s work in nature photography worthwhile. I would be interested to know if you are drawn to the finer points of a wildflower or if your preference is for the broader landscape. Let me have your views in the comments.
