SC-S29/W6 – Nostalgia Of The Little Me: A Childhood Story That Taught You Something
Childhood is a beautiful period with innocence, happiness and education. It is the period when we make some errors without realizing how significant they are but these mistakes can be affecting our future. Today, whenever I reflect on my childhood, I get a chance to remember a lot of things.
Some of them put me in a smile, others put me in an emotional state, and others make me remember some valuable lessons. This is an extraordinary event of my childhood that has helped me learn the lesson of honesty and responsibility and has been with me throughout my life.
About My Childhood Days
I was brought up in a modest family where both love and discipline were the two main things. My parents used to do their best to lead us in the right direction. We were not affluent, though happy. We told each other everything and knew how to appreciate minor things.
When I was a child, communication with friends was more interesting to me than games. I would like to play football, to run around and to laugh carefree. In some instances, I was irresponsible since I was more interested in having fun. Similar to other children, I did not necessarily reflect on the decisions of my actions.
The Day Everything Changed
At the time that I was approximately eight years old, my mother provided me with some money and requested me to purchase bread and milk at a local store. It was not a difficult job, however, it was a lot to me. I was proud as she had her trust on me.
I walked joyfully to the shop with the money clenched in my hand. On my way, I noticed that some children were playing football in a field. They had been laughing and amusing themselves. I unreflectively followed them.
We played for a long time. I forgot about the errand. After the game was completed, I checked my pocket and found out that the money was gone. My heart stopped. The money was gone.
My Fear and Confusion
And my heart would not have been free of fear at that moment. I started shaking my hands and my eyes were brimming. I turned the world upside down, and could not locate the money.
There were so many things in mind as I was walking back home. I even considered lying to my mother. I thought of making excuses. I feared she would be vexed and disillusioned. I was embarrassed that I had lost in such a trivial task.
I walked slowly and was heavy hearted. I did not know what to say when I got home.
My Mother's Reaction
My mother saw me grim when I got into the house. She asked me what was wrong. At first, I remained silent. Then I braced myself up and explained to her the truth.
I described how I had gone to take a break and had lost the money.
I expected punishment. I expected anger.
However, she smiled and said, Thank you telling me the truth. I am proud of you."
She told me that errors are normal in life and Anthony is better than all. According to her, lying would hurt my personality more than loss of money. She also taught me to be responsible at all times.
Her soothing speech went to my heart.
The Lesson I Learned
That day, I got to know two powerful lessons; honesty and responsibility.
I was taught that peace is achieved by telling the truth. It is the right decision even in hard times. I also got to know that any effort, however minor it is, should be noticed.
Since that time I was more cautious. When I was put on an errand, I was concentrated on completing it. I also got to know that fun is good, but duty comes first.
This was a learning experience, which made me emotionally and mentally mature.
The Implications of This Lesson on my Life.
This lesson remained with me as I became older. I was taught in school to be able to admit my mistakes. I had selected truthfulness in friendships. I attempted to be responsible in the workplace.
I have realized that people have more trust in me since I tell the truth. Although the truth is painful, it creates respect. Another lesson that I gained was to avoid being afraid of failure but learn.
I have a recollection of that small boy, who stood in front of his mother fearful and sincere. The memory gives me a good push whenever I enter into challenging circumstances.
My Reflection Today
I can say that I think about that incident nowadays, and I understand how valuable it was. It seemed to be expensive to lose money but invaluable to gain character.
The kind reaction of my mother transformed my life. Had she screamed at me, I could have learnt to be scared. However, she taught me bravery, honesty and confidence.
In this situation there are little moments that sometimes can teach us the greatest things. When we become older, then we are able to realize their worth.
I thank God that day since it is the reason I am who I am.
Conclusion
To sum up, this story of my childhood helped me to understand that honesty and responsibility are the key to a good life. The mishap that occurred taught me to have confidence and self-respect.
I have this lesson with me wherever I travel. It teaches me that I should never take a wrong path even during hard times. In my opinion, this lesson will remain useful to me in the future.
I will forever remember this and I will be able to transfer this value to other people just like my mother did to me and out of love.
