SC-S29/W2- Nostalgia Of The Liitle Me : Childhood Food Memories

I am very interested in participating in Season 29, Week 3 of the Steemit Engagement Challenge, which serves as a reminder to tell our fellow Steemians about our favorite food from our childhood.

What childhood food or dish do you still remember clearly, and why is it special to you?

My favorite childhood food is spaghetti. I love to eat it in the house when they prepared it for us because it's so delicious, and the aroma is fascinating, making you want more. I prefer white spaghetti with stew because it tastes unique, and my stomach will also quickly get full until I am hungry for other food.

It is my childhood food that most of us as students would request spaghetti with a mix of white rice during our school days. I believe it's special food because it is produced from quality grain. I am always happy whenever we prepare this food because it gives us more strength to perform our daily activities.

Who usually prepared this food for you, and how did it make you feel at that time?

My sister was the one who prepared this food for us before we went to bathe, she first put the clean water in a pot. After that, she placed the pot with water on the fire. When she noticed that the water was boiling for about 5 minutes, she added spaghetti by breaking it.

After that, when she noticed that the spaghetti was soft, she added salt to it for a better taste. She stirred it together to prevent it from sticking. After checking it and ensuring it was soft, she drained and served the food for everyone in the house. So this is how she make white spaghetti for us.

I feel better and always happy when all of us eat together because it unites us, and we all laugh and share stories about things that surprised us in the past.

When and where did you usually eat it (home, school, village, special occasions)?

I usually eat the food at home after my sister finishes cooking it, so when I reach school, I buy the food from the food vendor called Iya Tiago. This normally occurs during break time when we all go outside the school premises to purchase our favorite food.

There are too many crowds of students shouting in front of the food vendor; some of us do not like to eat spaghetti alone, so they prefer to eat it with boiled yam. Spaghetti is the popular food both back then and today because it is a food every child loves to have in their various schools.

What emotions come back when you think about the taste, smell, or moment?

I felt important at that time, as it also gave me the ability to feel comfortable and enjoy the best moments of my life. The smell was fantastic; even when we were outside, I noticed that they were cooking something interesting. The taste gave me the ability to ask for more because it was versatile and nutritious, which created the perfect moment to enjoy a good life.

The food also increases my sense of belonging as well as helps me think critically because after eating my favorite food, I am able to have the energy to solve some problems. This food always gives me joy and happiness, fulfilling what I need to do at that time.

Is this food still part of your life today, or does it remain only as a memory?

Yes, of course, it is part of my life where I love eating it because it's one of my favorite foods that I still eat today. This type of food helps us to be more active; that's why I always crave it and cook it at home whenever I am alone.

After eating, I always have a good sleep, which improves my brain's function. We still cook this type of food in our house because it's easy and does not require much money to prepare, and it's a common Nigerian food that we love to eat at home. It's very fast food that can be cooked quickly in about 10 minutes; it's a balanced meal that is easy to prepare.
