Hello steemians, today I will be sharing with you all my experience when I visited the Grotto of the Immaculate Conception. This place is located at the 245 Recce Battalion Afi Barracks, precisely at the Saint James Catholic Church. I visited the place on the 2nd of July 2026 and saw how the Grotto looks at Night.

This is a Grotto commissioned on the 7th of June 2026, with LT Maurice Kwembe, the chaplain who brought about the creation and blessing of the Grotto by the bishop, not to forget the commanding officer, COL SA Bello, for his active assistance with building materials for the Grotto. The builders just finished building the Grotto 5 days before it was commissioned on that Sunday. I usually attend Mass at the Saint James Catholic Church. The Grotto is a sacred Ground in the Catholic Church where worshippers go to pray and cry before the Mother of God (Jesus) and respect her intercession.

This all began during the time Jesus and his mother attended the Wedding at Cana in Galilee, where there was no more wine for guests to drink, and Jesus' mother, Mary, asked him to assist them. But he replied, saying this hour had not yet come; but he later helped by turning water into the finest wine for the celebration. This is why the Catholic brethren like myself build this Grotto to ask that Mary, the mother of Jesus, intercede for us so that my prayers can be heard despite our sins.

I haven't come here to pray before, but I have seen people, and friends come here to pray and have time with the Creator. The statue of Mother Mary is always in the Grotto, as you can see, showing that she is present to bring our worries before Christ. I will say that I really liked the structure of the Grotto most especially because of how fenced and beautiful it is; you can see that the front and the corner make the place look pleasing and comfortable for spirituality.

If you are thinking that the environment is beautiful, pleasing, and nice for prayers in the day, then I am sure that you would love to be here at night, where you can see that the entire grotto lights up wherever there's electricity. It was extremely awesome to actually get to see the Grotto looking beautiful and peaceful at night.

My personal Experience & Thoughts

I would say that the place really brought joy to my soul. Seeing how the environment was built to perfection made me admire the way the Catholic Church upholds tradition.

When I was walking past the area to feel at peace, I noticed that the church choir was rehearsing, and as they were singing, I felt like I was already in heaven. The setting of the Grotto amazes me the most because you can see that the Grotto is actually at the right spot.

Being able to see the organized environment and the flowers was a blast. But I don't just see the Grotto as a sacred place of prayer but a place of divine uplifting because it's where you have the chance to pray and believe it will be answered. After all, the Lord will answer us through the reminder of his immaculate conception to save us and the view of his mother in us.
