What is the childhood incident or story you want to share?

During my childhood, two incidents happened to me that I still remember to date. One of the incidents was drunkness and the other incident was that I found a wallet on my way to school. These are the two incident still stay with me longer than I expected. I will only share about me being drunk as a child.

How old were you, and what exactly happened in that moment?

When I was about eight years old, I experienced an incident that stayed with me longer than I expected. One afternoon, I drank a hot drink that made me fall down while playing with other children that got my mother cry and run me to the hospital thinking that it was something else that happened to me.

As a child, I used to see how my dad would mix some root into a bottle, pour wine into it, and keep it somewhere in the living room. My dad was the chairman at my tribal meeting which he usually kept different kinds of drinks at home. As a child who knew nothing about drinks, I usually watched my dad, his friends, and visitors drinking which is what he usually gave me was mineral water and juice.

One day I came back from school, and found myself in the house alone, no one was home, it was just me and then I decided to taste what my dad had been taking. I rushed to where he usually kept his wines and drank them by tasting them. If I poured a small quantity of Redwine inside the cup and drank it, I will poured small quantity of another wine inside the cup and drink.

After taking the drinks, I left the house to go where I usually go and play with other children. While playing I started feeling weak, my eyes were turning me which I couldn't control myself or walk in the right direction. I felt down and the people around me started shouting for help which i was rush home, and my mother quickly carried me on her back and began running to the hospital crying and calling my name.

On our way going to the hospital, someone stopped my mother to ask what happened to me and it was when the man got closer to me so he could hear me that he noticed that I had drunk something that got me drunk. He immediately told my mother to take me back home and give me oil and peak milk to drink which she went back home with me and did as the man said before I got myself back.

What emotions did you feel during and after the incident?

During the incident, I felt a mix of fear, guilt, and greed. After I had gained myself I felt guilt and fear because I thought my mother would report me to my dad when he is back from work and that my dad would beat me. However, my dad was told about the incident and he warned me never to do such a thing again, as he stopped keeping drinks at home without locking them.

What lesson or realization did you learn from this experience?

I learned that one should drink or take whatever he or she can't carry. I learn not to take alcoholic drinks and to stay away from any drink that has more than 10% alcohol in it. Also, I learned that honesty is not always easy, especially when the temptation to try or do something is strong, but doing the right thing brings a deeper happiness which I wouldn't have taken any of the drink.

How has this lesson influenced your life until today?

The lesson has influenced my life to date. Even on Sunday, I went out with some friends I faced a difficult choice to take alcohol or soft drinks which my friends tempted me to drink alcohol, but I didn't, because the moment I remembered my childhood incident I quickly ordered soft drinks.
