Hello friends of #StoryOnSteem, we are already in week 3 and this challenge is proving to be very lovely and nostalgic. This week I will tell you about the Nostalgia of my little self: Gastronomic memories of childhood

What food or dish from your childhood do you still remember clearly and why is it special to you?

I remember many things, because we always ate well at home. There are dishes I really love and remember fondly, but without a doubt, if there's one dish that strongly reminds me of my childhood, it's Christmas food.

I remember it with so much love and nostalgia because it's the time when the whole family would gather at home and we were so happy. There was family unity, joy, and that wonderful smell of delicious food filled my grandmother's house.

In Venezuela, it's a tradition that has been maintained through the years: preparing Christmas food for Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners. It's my favorite food, the food I look forward to most, and the food that has made me cry while eating it. Since I was a child, I've witnessed the process of making it, and that's why it's so special to me.

The dish consists of hallacas, chicken salad, roasted chicken or pork, ham bread, alegrías (a type of candy), and lots of love—in other words, the best thing in the world!

Who used to prepare this food for you and how did it make you feel at the time?

I have to say that I have a grandmother and a mother who are chefs without formal qualifications. They've always been my favorite cooks because they cook so deliciously, and I've always preferred their homemade food to street food.

My mother and grandmother are in charge of making this spectacular dish. They've always prepared this food for the whole family, and I have the fondest memories of cooking with them as a child, making hallacas and the traditional Christmas dish at home.

When they cooked together, it was incredible because they brought us all together around the table with their delicious flavors. I remember being so happy and always eating so well.

When and where did you usually eat it (at home, at school, in the village, on special occasions)?

This dish is typical of the Christmas season. We used to eat it around Christmas time or for New Year's Eve dinner, although it was also often prepared on other special occasions throughout the year, such as birthdays or graduation celebrations.

I mostly knew it from my grandmother's house, where I spent my childhood. Her house was the gathering place for all my family members.

What emotions come back when you think about the taste, the smell, or the moment?

For many, Christmas is about lights and gifts, but for me, Christmas is about sitting down at the table. My happiness has the aroma of my grandmother's kitchen and the flavor of my mother's cooking. They are the true magicians of this time of year; they don't need magic wands, just their pots, their spices, and that secret ingredient only they know.

When I think about the aroma of Christmas food, I feel a joy that fills my entire body. It's knowing that I'm safe, that I'm loved, and that something wonderful is about to happen. Each bite is like a hug that tells me: I made this thinking of you. I feel nostalgic for everything that goes into making hallacas and everything we learn because we're taught the tradition from a young age.

Thinking about their food is like traveling back in time. I see myself sitting in the kitchen, watching my grandmother patiently chop ingredients and my mother stirring the hallaca stew with a smile. Those moments make me feel like I'm part of something big and beautiful.

Thanks to them, Christmas isn't just a date on the calendar; it's a feast of love that I keep in my mouth and in my heart. There's no gift in the world that compares to the flavor of their cooking.

Does this food still play a part in your life today, or does it just remain a memory?

Of course, as I mentioned before, it's a tradition in our country and in my family. Every year we get together to eat this food, and every year I enjoy it just as much as when I was a child.

It's a meal that brings us together and allows us to experience extraordinary moments as a family. I think that's why I love this food so much and why it makes me so happy to be able to enjoy it, because it allows me to share unique and unforgettable moments with my loved ones.

Greetings,

Thank you so much for participating in the contest.

You wrote beautifully. Spending time with family around your favorite food, especially enjoying your grandmother’s and mother’s cooking, is truly sweet and meaningful. You described the smell, taste, and family atmosphere very well.

You used several childhood photos, which made the post more lively and showed a nice connection between your childhood and the present. Cooking and eating together with your family clearly reflects strong family bonds and cultural values.

However, you could have used fewer photos. If you had included some pictures of the recipe or cooking steps instead, the post would have been more perfect.
