So it goes on until the soul reaches the seventh heaven. Allah also said, "Write the record of my servant's charity in 'Illiyin and return it to the earth because from their land I will create, into their land I will return, and out of their land I will spend it at other times."

When brought to the sky, all the doors of the sky closed and reluctantly opened. Every angel of the gatekeepers prayed that the infidel's spirit could not rise to Rabb Al-Alamin. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "It is not opened for them the doors of the heavens and they will not enter Paradise until the camels can enter the pinhole" (Surat al-A'raf: 40).

The door of the sky is reluctant to open, angels are reluctant to take, then the spirit becomes a forgotten pile. Allah also said to him, "Write the note of his deeds in Sijjil, the lowest earth. As for the spirit, just throw it away. "

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) again took the verse of the story, "And whoever associates with Allah, it is as if he fell from the sky and was struck by a bird or thrown down by the wind to a distant place again." (Surat al-Hajj: 31) .

So the angel unleashed the spirit of the disbeliever to the earth, throwing him away. Until then the spirit is terlunta-lunta before finally be back to his body in the grave. It was then that he was visited by an angel and asked four things as a final test.

"Hah, haha, I do not know," she replied to each question. And the voice of the heavens was heard: "Lie unto him, stretch out the depths of hell and open for him a door of hell. "

If his body vanishes into dust, then the shape is restored as before, then beaten back the stick. So repeated until doomsday comes. So sick, the infidel screamed so violently that all the inhabitants of the earth except the jinn and man could hear.

Such is the process that must be faced by us when death comes and the spirit is lifted. This story is reported directly by the Prophet in a long hadith narrated by Imam Ahmad and Imam Abu Dawud from the Companions of Al Bara 'bin Aziz.

Sejak mengalami sakaratul maut, manusia terbagi menjadi dua golongan. Pembagian ini akan terus terjadi ketika ruh diangkat dan melakukan perjalanan yang tak singkat ke atas langit. Secara fisik, Jasad kedua golongan ini memang sama, yakni dikebumikan. Namun secara lahir, yakni ruh, mereka mengalami proses yang berbeda.

Seorang yang beriman, saat menghadapi sakaratul maut akan bertemu dengan para malaikat dari langit yang wajahnya begitu indah, putih bersinar terang laksana mentari pagi. Mereka para malaikat membawa kain kafan yang halus dan wewangian semerbak dari surga.

Di dekat seorang yang beriman tersebut, para malaikat itu duduk berbaris yang jumlahnya sangat banyak hingga sejauh mata memandang. Rupanya mereka tengah menyambut hamba Allah yang akan kembali kepada-Nya. Hingga kemudian datang malaikat maut untuk menyambut nyawa si mukmin. Izrail berkata, “Wahai jiwa yang baik, keluarlah menuju ampunan dan keridhaan Allah Ta’ala.”

Maka ruh hamba allah yang beriman itu pun keluar dari jasad dengan sangat halus. Diibaratnya prosesnya laksana air yang mengalir. Saat ruh itu tercabut, semua malaikat yang berada di bumi dan di langit mendoakannya.

Ruh itu pun tak berlama-lama di genggaman Izrail dengan segera menyerahkannya pada para malaikat berwajah putih. Mereka kemudian membalut ruh itu dengan kafan lembut dan diberi wewangian surga hingga harumnya sangat semerbak. Setelah itu, mulailah perjalanan ruh menuju Sang Ilahi.

Ketika malaikat membawa ruh itu ke atas langit, semua pintu langit terbuka menyambut kedatangannya. Setiap pintunya dijaga oleh malaikat. Acapkali ruh melewati pintu, setiap malaikat berdoa agar ruh si mukmin dapat naik melewati tiap jenjang langit.

Acapkali ruh itu melewati sekumpulan malaikat, para malaikat pun bertanya, “Siapakah ruh ini?” Dijawab oleh malaikat berwajah putih, “Ia adalah Fulan bin Fulan,” disebut namanya saat dikenal di dunia.

Demikian seterusnya terjadi hingga sang ruh mencapai langit ketujuh. Allah pun berfirman, “Tulislah catatan amal hamba-Ku ini di ‘Illiyin dan kembalikanlah ia ke bumi karena dari tanah mereka Aku ciptakan, ke dalam tanah mereka akan Aku kembalikan, dan dari dalam tanah mereka akan Aku keluarkan pada kali yang lain.”

Maka para malaikat pun mengembalikan ruh ke jasadnya yang telah dikebumikan. Si mukmin itu bahkan dapat mendengar derap langkah orang-orang yang melayatnya. Hingga suara langkah pelayat terakhir, jasad yang telah kembali bersama ruh itu kedatangan tamu di alam kubur. Ialah Munkar Nakir.

Ditanyalah empat perkara kepada penghuni kubur ; Siapakah Tuhanmu? Apa agamamu? Siapa rasulmu? Dan Apa amalanmu? Inilah ujian akhir yang dihadapi manusia. Seorang mukmin tentu mampu menjawabnya dengan mudah.

Selepas itu terdengarlah suara dari langit, “Hamba-Ku telah benar, maka bentangkanlah pertama ini surga untuknya. Berilah ia pakaian dari surga dan bukakan sebuah pintu surga untuknya.”

Sang mayat mukmin itu pun kemudian merasakan harumnya surga yang begitu semerbak mewangi. Kuburannya pula dilapangkan hingga luasnya sejauh mata memandang. Tak hanya itu, si mukmin pula didatangi seseorang yang wajahnya sangat indah dan wangi aromanya. Seorang itu berkata, “Bergembira lah. Ini adalah hari yang pernah dijanjikan kepadamu,” ujarnya.

Si mukmin tentu kaget dan segera bertanya, “Siapakah engkau? Wajahmu benar-benar membawa kebaikan.” Seorang itu lantas menjawab, “Aku adalah amal shalihmu. Sungguh aku mengenalmu sebagai seorang yang selalu bersegera di dalam ketaatan kepada Allah dan enggan bermaksiat kepadanya. Semoga Allah membalasnya dengan kebaikan.”
Itu kisah mukminin, lalu bagaimana dengan orang-orang kafir? Maka kisah mengerikan terjadi sejak ruh para pembangkang syariat Allah itu dilepas dari tubuhnya. Didatangkan padanya malaikat yang wajahnya sangat gelap lagi keras. Kain kafan yang sangat kasar dibawa mereka dari neraka. Para malaikat itu kemudian duduk berbasis sejauh mata memandang di sisi si kafir yang tengah sakaratul maut.

Hingga ketika Izrail datang, ia mengeluarkan ruh si kafir dengan kasar. Laksana menarik besi bercabang dari wol yang basah, ruh itu ditarik hingga mencabik-cabik uratnya. “Wahai jiwa yang buruk, keluarlah menuju kemurkaan Allah,” ujar malaikat maut.

Ketika ruh itu telah lepas dari jasad, seluruh malaikat di langit dan di bumi melaknatnya. Malaikat berwajah hitam segera membungkus ruhnya dengan kain yang amat kasar dan baunya tak sedap. Aroma ruh itu pun lebih menyengat dari bangkai paling bau sekalipun.

Saat dibawa ke langit, semua pintu langit tertutup dan enggan membuka. Setiap malaikat penjaga pintu langit berdoa agar ruh si kafir tak dapat naik menemui Rabb Al Alamin. Rasulullah bersabda saat mengisahkannya, “Tidak dibukakan untuk mereka pintu-pintu langit dan mereka tidak akan masuk ke dalam surga sampai unta bisa masuk ke lubang jarum.” (QS. Al-A’raf : 40).

Pintu langit enggan membuka, malaikat pun enggan mengantar, maka ruh itu pun menjadi seonggok yang terlupakan. Allah pun berfirman kepadanya, “Tulis lah catatan amalnya di Sijjil, bumi terbawah. Adapun ruhnya, lemparkan saja begitu saja.”

Rasulullah kembali mengambil ayat tentang kisah tersebut, “Dan barangsiapa yang menyekutukan Allah, maka seakan-akan ia jatuh tersungkur dari langit lalu ia disambar oleh burung atau diempaskan oleh angin ke tempat yang jauh lagi membinasakan.” (QS. Al-Hajj : 31).

Maka malaikat pun melepas ruh orang kafir itu ke bumi, melempar nya begitu saja. Hingga kemudian ruh itu terlunta-lunta sebelum akhirnya dapat kembali ke jasadnya di alam kubur. Saat itulah ia didatangi malaikat dan ditanya empat perkara sebagai ujian akhir.

“Hah, haha, saya tidak tahu,” demikian jawabnya untuk setiap pertanyaan. Lalu terdengharlah suara dari langit, “Telah berdusta dia, bentangkanlah hamparan dari neraka dan bukakanlah baginya sebuah pintu neraka. “

Segera terasalah hawa panas neraka kemudian kubur menjadi sangat sempit hingga jasad si kafir harus tertekuk-tekuk dan remuk tulang-belulangnya. Tak lama kemudian datang sesosok yang amat sangat jelek wajahnya dan baunya teramat busuk. Ia berkata kepada si kafir, “Berbahagialah dengan keburukan ini, inilah hari yang pernah dijanjikan kepadamu.”

Si kafir bertanya kaget, “siapakah engkau? Wajahmu benar-benar pertanda keburukan.” Lalu dijawab kepadanya, “Aku lah amalan jelek. Sungguh aku mengenal sebagai seorang yang beralasan menaati perintah Allah, namun bersegera dalam bermaksiat kepada-Nya. Semoga Allah membalas dengan keburukan.”

Lalu didatangkan padanya seorang yang buta, bisu dan tuli. Orang itu membawa tongkat dari besi yang jika dipukulkan pada gunung maka hancurkan gunung itu hingga menjadi debu. Di alam kubur, orang itu bertugas memukulkan tongkat mengerikan itu ke tubuh si kafir.

Jika tubuhnya lenyap menjadi debu, maka dikembalikanlah bentuknya seperti semula, lalu dipukulkan kembali tongkat tersebut. Demikian berulang-ulang sampai hari kiamat tiba. Saking sakitnya, si kafir menjerit amat sangat keras yang dapat didengar seluruh penghuni bumi kecuali jin dan manusia.

Demikianlah proses yang harus dihadapi kita saat ajal tiba dan ruh dicabut. Kisah ini dikabarkan langsung oleh Rasulullah dalam sebuah hadits yang panjang riwayat Imam Ahmad dan Imam Abu Dawud dari Shahabat Al Bara’ bin Aziz.

Lalu, sudah siapkan kita saat waktu itu tiba? Saat sakaratul maut tiba, siapa malaikat yang datang, malaikat berwajah putih atau gelap? Apa yang mereka bawa, kafan lembut dari surga ataukah yang kasar dari an-naar. Mengingat nya tentulah mengerikan, apalagi bagi kita yang belum bersiap dengan bekal amal shalih.
