How I turned £70 into £150,000+
My name is James. How I came to be on steemit. Some people would say I was lucky, I'd just say I was in the right place at the right time. Back in 2012, I bought my first bitcoin from a miner on eBay, in fact I purchased most of my bitcoin from the same miner, repeat customer. I spent £70. Then, bitcoin had a bit of a jump in price and eBay removed the ability for people to buy bitcoin with PayPal, people were getting scammed due to PayPal buyer protection policy. It wasn't so easy to get hold of Bitcoin back then, even by that point you needed decent mining rigs costing a fortune in electric, it was bearly worth it at some points before 2012.
I understood the value of blockchain technology, before ending up here I spent 10 years in the IT industry, selling back end infrastructure solutions for some very big names. I've witnessed the evolution of the internet, from before google until now. The immense and profound impact that such a groundbreaking technology had on society. We are stood at the precipice of the future, the blockchain will change the way we work and get paid and send and receive value. But just like with any technology, it has a dark side. It can be used for good and bad means.
Maybe it's my ultra paranoid brain and the way I can extrapolate out an idea in my head in many ways and test my idea in the future. Blockchain technology will become the foundation of our society. Our governments and city's will be run on blockchains, we the people will become digital assets on the governmental blockchain, numerous wallets aligned to the single user. You'll need a multi wallet in the token economy that will be created. Well, there's no real difference between the £, $,€ or ¥ they are all just Tokens from another company that creates alleged value out of thin air. Isn't that the very same thing that crypto is when you boil it down. The token economy where anytime you interact with any part of society or the smart city, you are tracked and an immutable record of fact will be created.
It is very hard to get away from the utopian ideology delivered in "Demolition Man" where if you get fined or a tax levied upon it is deducted immediately from your wallet. This is the technology that will make that movie a reality.
It won't belong before the banks want a piece, they will be creating their own. These coins will be hated by all crypto enthusiasts, just like Ripple. Well it makes sense that the Central banks move to digital assets, it will mean they can cut down on the cost of printing paper notes. Well, when you factor in research and development from the Bank of England, its costs more to print that it's actually worth, so it would be a big bonus for them.
Anyway, a year ago I decided to leave my job, without another job to go to. I'd spent 10 years working up the ladder in the IT industry before I'd become disillusioned with the world, pondered why I actually went to work, the definition of the word slavery and a number of other useless ideas, like never ending hamster wheel and how real is reality?
I'd decided I didn't want to scare the living daylights out of people with fear that I'd manufactured just to maximise the sales potential of any dumb shit, sorry customer. Not my bag. Not anymore. Done, finito.
So I spent the next 6 month learning how to fly FPV racing drones, it was a far cry from the fast paced sales world I'd become accustomed to. It was bliss. That's was before someone stole all my flying gear from the back of my friends van. It was a sad day. About £2,000's of kit I lost, I was gutted.
I didn't want to touch my bitcoins. I was holding on to those for dear life, you would have had to prize them from my dead lifeless fingers. I was a longer term bag holder. But my bag had grown significantly, to the point where I started to spend some of that bitcoin on altcoins. Over the last few months I have made a tidy profit. So much so I am now looking to spend the next year living off Crypto, along with a self made challenge, the race to 100 BTC. Even if it gets to almost zero, I don't care. I've taken out enough now to cover every penny plus 10000% more than I've ever put into this. My aim is to continue to take from the market for as long as I can.
Which, after that long winded roundabout story, brings me to SteemIT, social media with Crypto, it's a match made in heaven. Well for me it is at least. Part of my strategy is to drive a passive income in Crypto, I already stake some of the coins I own, this is just another opportunity to increase my addiction to collecting internet money, that doesn't exist in the real world. Crazy, if I'd have told my 12 year old self that story, I'd have been like.... yeah right, if you think that's real, then here a bridge I have to sell.
Here's a shred of optimism in a falling market. Crypto is here to stay. The deflationary propities of crypto make it a safer investment over time., just simply because the value of every fiat over time will decrease, when every year more notes are printed. Most cryptos have a finite amount. Regardless of the shortterm price fluctuations, the house wins over time. In this game you hold bitcoin, you are the house.
It's funny that the people that have the most to lose, react so negatively to Bitcoin.
I hoped you enjoyed my story, it completed my first post. I will begin to post more regularly. Thanks for reading. Yeah title was clickbait, anyone who invested when I did made that and more!
Catch ya later
