Incase you are wondering whose statue is this, its Jesus Christ's,standing with his arms spread and guess what, He is casting a watchful eyes over Rio de Janeiro.
The statue of Jesus Christ located on The Coreovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro is truly a sight to behold. It is the world's largest art deco Statue and it was unveiled in 1931.
Brief facts about this great Wonder.
It is 125ft tall, not including the 22ft pedestal it
stands on.
2. The idea of building a Statue for Christ was first suggested In the 1850's to honor Princess Isabel, the princess regent of Brazil.
3. This unique Statue was designed by Paul Landowski, a French Sculptor and was built by Brazilians and French engineers.
4. The face of this sculpture was designed by Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonaida.
5. It was built within 11years Before completion .
6. The arms of the statue stretch about 92ft wide.
7. The statue was partly destroyed when lightening Struck it in 2008 during a major thunderstorm . It was later restored.
How can this enormous statue be accessed?
It can be Reached by hiking through one of Rio de Janeiro's natural wonder, a swathe of the Tijuca rainforest.
Also, you can either reach the statue via a small train or a 50mins trek accompanied by a menagerie of exotic butterflies, monkeys, lizard and other animals typical of a rainforest.
