SVM Testnet Surpasses 236K Blocks: Network Resilience, Validator Health & Sherpa Ahead
The Steem Virtual Machine (SVM) Testnet continues to demonstrate consistently stable and reliable performance, having surpassed the 217K block milestone. As of the latest update, the network has exceeded 236,080 blocks, maintaining a robust and resilient foundation during continuous operation.
Current Network Statistics
Latest Testnet statistics:
| Metric | Current Status |
|---|---|
| Total Blocks Produced | 236,080+ |
| Total Transactions | 10,692 |
| Average Block Time | ~5.5 seconds |
| Active Validators | 11 / 12 |
The network is currently producing blocks regularly, with the consensus mechanism, security patches, and optimized oracle clients functioning efficiently.
Validator Status and Network Resilience
Currently, 11 out of 12 validators are actively participating in consensus and oracle-related duties.
A validator being temporarily outside the active set can be a normal occurrence in a decentralized and permissionless testnet environment. The number of active validators may fluctuate temporarily due to brief network connectivity issues, routine server maintenance, or local infrastructure problems.
Most importantly, even amidst these temporary fluctuations, the network:
- Maintains continuous block production
- Preserves consensus stability
- Operates without interruption
- Continues oracle duties
- Maintains overall network health
This demonstrates the resilience of the SVM Testnet and the capability of its decentralized infrastructure.
Automated Recovery System
SVM’s automated ./update.sh workflow and state-sync recovery process have simplified recovery for validator operators.
If a validator becomes temporarily inactive, the operator can quickly perform node updates, synchronization, and recovery procedures to rejoin the active validator set.
This enables minimized validator downtime and helps maintain the overall reliability of the network.
v0.0.4.x Security and Stability
Following the previous v0.0.4.x security and maintenance update cycle, the SVM Testnet is now operating on a hardened infrastructure.
Security patches and optimized oracle clients have made the network's transaction processing and validation processes more reliable.
In addition to eliminating critical vulnerabilities from container images, validator recovery and synchronization workflows have been improved.
This sustained stability indicates that major issues from the upgrade phase no longer pose significant obstacles for the network.
Next Goal: Sherpa Protocol
With the SVM Testnet infrastructure now sufficiently stable, the development team is moving toward the next major milestone.
That milestone is:
Sherpa Protocol Smart Contract Deployment and Testing
The plan is to experimentally introduce new DeFi capabilities to the Steem Virtual Machine by deploying and testing Sherpa Protocol smart contracts within the SVM environment.
The next development phase will potentially include:
- Decentralized Finance (DeFi)
- Trading features
- Liquidity features
- Smart contract-based applications
The deployment schedule, contract addresses, and testing instructions for developers and validators will be released in future updates.

Testnet Disclaimer
The Steem Virtual Machine is currently strictly in the Testnet phase.
Bonded STEEM, executed transactions, and generated tokens on this chain are used solely for testing consensus and the EVM execution layer.
These assets hold no real-world monetary value. ---
Currently, even with 11 out of 12 validators active, the network continues to produce blocks without interruption and maintains a healthy consensus state. Temporary validator inactivity is a normal occurrence in a decentralized testnet environment, and automated update and state-sync recovery systems facilitate rapid recovery.
Most importantly, the SVM’s hardened infrastructure and v0.0.4.x security improvements are now demonstrating their effectiveness through sustained operation.
This stability has laid a solid foundation for the SVM's next major development phase. A key objective now is to deploy and test the Sherpa Protocol smart contracts, paving the way for the experimental launch of DeFi, trading, and liquidity capabilities within the SVM environment.
