Standing Together: When Caring Becomes Our Strength
After finishing a full day of supervising the semester exams, the big family of SMPN 2 Lhokseumawe realized that being a teacher is not only about teaching in the classroom. It is also about being present as a family when others are facing difficult times. So when we heard the news that two of our belove friends were affected by the flood in Krueng Geukueh, and another friend’s child was hospitalized in Bunga Melati Hospital, we knew we had to show up.
We left the school together, our principal, teachers, and staff, riding the bright yellow school bus. The 45-minute journey felt different this time. It was not only a physical trip, but also a journey of empathy, love, and responsibility. Inside the bus, we laughed and shared stories, yet each of us silently sent prayers for strength and healing.
Our first stop was Bunga Melati Hospital. One of our colleagues was there to accompany his sick child. We came not only with small gifts, but also with warm smiles, encouraging words, and heartfelt prayers. We hoped our short visit could give a little light during their challenging days.

| People clean their house |
The trip continued to the homes of Mr. Ibni Yamin and Mrs. Yusra. Along the road, we saw many people cleaning and drying their belongings, clothes hung outside, mattresses leaning against walls, and household items arranged under the sun after being submerged in floodwater. It was a picture of struggle, yet also a picture of people trying to rise again.
When we arrived, our friends welcomed us with sincere smiles. Even though their bodies were tired, their hearts remained strong. We talked, we listened, and we tried to bring a little laughter to help ease the burden they had been carrying. Maybe what we brought was not much, but what mattered most was that they felt they were not facing this alone.
We returned home with tired bodies, but hearts filled with gratitude and new lessons. Today reminded us that a school is more than just a place to learn, it is a family. And in a family, no one is left behind when hardship strikes.
Stay strong and be happy
