Who is living "On the milky road"?
On the milky road (directed by Emir Kusturica) is poetic metaphor of love and visual ceremony of beauty. Nature is living in its grate symphony of elements and glory. Love is war of emotions not war of soldiers. Story is somewhere in the middle, not in the earth not in the sky.
Everything here is like poetry. Characters are living in the magical country with magical stories of its lives. Dead is magical like love is. People are living with nature in grate unity and they are understanding each other in the best way just in the special moments of life.
Sky, sun, mountain and river are together in the role of paintings human character.
I don’t want to write review of a movie, I want to stay amazed in the look of this grate art work.
Who is living on the milky road?
On the milky road is living a man who is believing in a mystery. Like its main character this movie is believing in that, mystery of love in a lot of ways. One man, in the midst of the Bosnian War, milkman and falconer, delivers milk from the farm. That way reminds in a way of martyrdom, with a lot of symbols from the Bible.
He ride a donkey and it is famous symbol of Christ. In that way Kustuica wanted to show connect of his movie with Christian story. In is milky road he meet snake, but in his perception snake doesn’t have negative perception. She is helping him to survive and from that moment she becomes his best friend. Kosta (name of the main character) is giving her milk every morning after that day. Kusturica is giving to snake reverse symbol. She is usually symbol of evil, but here is not.
In that milky road Kosta is looking like a modern Don Quixote. He is doing impossible job, with umbrella like a shield agains the bombs. That milky road is way of new birth. In the end of movie Kosta would try to build with stones new temple of love.
That can be milky road - temple of new love.
War and peace in the earth and sky
On that milky road Kusturica sow pure people in the middle of war, but people fool of happiness and some crazy, grate energy. In the war people are trying to survive and they are surviving with illusion. Because of that we are watching two hours illusion like a key of understanding this movie. We don’t have possibility to see a war but in the atmosphere of peace war has his grate reflection.
Deep in the soul of people is living feeling that they are maybe dad maybe alive. They are living in the border and that border is making two parts of them – good and bad part. What would be dominant is depending of a . circumstances. In the atmosphere of blood and killing we can find a people fool of passion and love. Because of that, this movie is representing war in the world and peace in the souls of people.
Animals like a humans, humans like a animals
In the movie On the milky road, animals are presenting like a characters. All of them has some kind of different motivation to participation. Some of them are just symbols, and others are equal participants in the movie. Donkey is symbol of victim. The eagle is a symbol of freedom and loyalty, very famous in Slovenian mythology. There is very interesting scene, were white goose drops into a bowl full of blood. Innocent victims destroy and kill a raging anger. Animals represent people, but the reverse process takes place.
In the last scene, we are watching two lovers hiding from the killers in the herd of sheep. Herd of sheep is from the Bible like a symbol of humans.
In the end, the main actor feeds the bear, which symbolizes strength and perseverance. Making characters from the animals Kusturica wanted to show, universal language which does not depend on the current circumstances and troubles. We are existing all together like a symbols of every time and every place. We are humans and animals in the same time. We are symbols of them and they are symbols of us.
Story of eternal love
Love is key word for this movie. We are watching a lot of types of love. Platonic and plotting love, love of earth and love of sky, love for moment and love for destiny. Love in the war and love killed in the peace. In the end love stays eternal, eternal in our mind and eternal in our spirit.
The main actor is in front of marriage, when he met beautiful women (Monica Beluci). Love gives life meaning and the answer is to the absurd of everyday life. People are dancing and killing because of love. Everything is happening because of that. In one moment lovers starting to fly because of great feelings. That is symbolistic but beautiful in the same time. Flying is sense of feeling.
The male-female relationship is tinted and gradually built. First, a man is a coward and a fugitive on a donkey, while a lush woman with a bucket of milk falls in his arms, the milk is splashed, sprays, which highlights her passivity, vitality, fertility. They love water, while the pumpkin is swimming around them. Love shows in the tree trunks, on the line of waterfalls, at every step in running. Love is fears and last word of this movie. Love is ultimately a great tragedy. The bride dies in white and goes to heaven, and this is a famous symbol of romantic literature.
Hardening love in the building At the end of the film, Kosta wants to run for a deceased bridesmaid and suicide. This is prevented by a man who speaks to him about the higher and deeper meaning of life. Kosta is searching for his new life like a monk. Now she has her new milk path. It's a stone path. On the back of the village he carries full bags of rocks and climbs with whirlpools, where he once passed with the Bride.
For years he has been putting stones and assembling parts of mosaics. That mosaic is symbol of great earth love who will become great spiritual imagination. Loving can be the some like bilding. They are making his love from the stones, because love is strong and huge. His life got sense in suffering and building.
He become monk of great and eternal love. This is his milk and stone road. Road of feelings in great symphony of colors and music.
