Scientists have just announced that they have discovered a new planet at just 11 light years away from the earth where conditions are so favorable where life might be possible. Ross 128 b, probably a rocky planet, is 1.35 times as large as the earth.

According to the study that appeared today, it is a possible even more significant discovery than that of Proxima Centauri b, the earth-like planet closest to the earth and discovered a few years ago.

The temperatures would be favorable enough, with extremes between -60 and 15 degrees. This also means that the presence of liquid water, a necessary condition for the life forms that we know so far, is possible.

The new planet was discovered with the HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher) spectra in the Chilean Atacama desert.
