#1 Gain control of your free time! Part of a series of articles written as TEDTalk notes

Hello steemits!

This is my first post here so, as a newbie, I tought the best thing to do is share with you my notes (things I want to remember or apply in my life) on a TEDTalk video about time management.

Time management expert Laura Vanderkam studies how busy people spend their lives, and she's discovered that many of us drastically overestimate our commitments each week, while underestimating the time we have to ourselves. She offers a few practical strategies to help find more time for what matters to us, so we can "build the lives we want in the time we've got."

  • You don't have time = It's not your priority.
Oftentimes, when we say we don't have time to do something, we actually have other "important stuff" to do, like watching Netflix.

  • To find your priorities, write your next year's review.
Imagine you had an amazing year, the best of all years and you are reviewing it. Write the things that made it so great then turn them into goals.

  • Split your goals into doable steps
Let's say that you want to run a 5km marathon. First, find a track to practice, get some running outfit, start by running 1km, etc.

  • Make a 3 category priorities list: career, relationships, self.
This should remember you that there has to be something in each category... 2-3 items/category.

  • To treat your goals/steps as a priority, you must put them in your schedule before the week starts.
Find some time, let's say Friday afternoon and think about where to plan these steps in order to be doable.
For when you plan them is up to you and for some people it can be complicated but if we do the math you'd be surprised to see that we actually have a lot of time. Each week has 168 hours, from which, let's assume 40 are for work and 56 for sleep, which leaves us with 72h of time.

  • There is time. Even if we are busy, we can find time for what truly matters
When we focus on what matters we can build the livest we want in the time we've got.

Considering that this is my first article here, please share your opinion about it in the comments bellow, so I can improve the quality of my future notes, to make them more useful for the community.
Thanks!
