Why Did The South East Asian Water Monitor Lizard Cross the Road?

I was up at the Asian Institute of Technology last week which is a beautiful campus just North of Bangkok and home to loads of wildlife, well stray dogs, snakes and big lizards anyway, when this fella walked across the road in front of me.

So the question is: Why did the lizard cross the road?
