The Diary Game: (16/4/2026) Waking Up Doing The House Chores Before Going Out
Who doesn't like doing house chores? Well, I think doing house chores is one of the sweetest things I love doing after waking up. It just sets the tone for my whole day and makes me feel like I’m in control. After I woke up in the morning, still rubbing sleep from my eyes, the first thing I did was go straight to the bathroom to brush my teeth. That fresh mint feeling is the real way to tell my body that the day has started. I squeezed the toothpaste on my brush and did it properly — no rushing, because clean teeth means fresh breath for the day.
After brushing my teeth, I didn’t even sit down to waste time. I went straight to get my broomstick and dustpan because I already knew what needed to be done. I swept the house thoroughly, from the sitting room to the bedroom and even the corners we normally forget. I dusted the tables, the TV stand, and the windows by removing all the unwanted dirt that had settled overnight. Then I brought out the mop and water, mopped the whole floor until it was shining, and arranged the chairs and everything properly. I wasn’t done yet — I stepped outside and swept the compound too because it was not looking tidy. The breeze usually brings leaves and dirt into the compound, so I made sure I cleared everything until the place looked neat and welcoming again.
After all that work, honestly I was so tired and famished. My body was literally asking for food and my stomach was already making noise. So I decided to go out to a nearby store and get some cornflakes to eat because it’s quick and filling. While I was at the shop, just picking the cornflakes from the shelf, I heard someone call my name. I turned and saw a very good friend of mine that traveled a long time ago. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was so happy to see him and he was just as happy to see me too. We exchanged greetings, hugged, and started talking like no time had passed. He told me he was in town for a bit and said he was going to take me out. At that point I decided to rush and buy my cornflakes quickly so that we could go together and come back on time.
When I finished taking the cornflakes, I didn’t waste any more time. I quickly rushed to the bathroom to get my bath because I wanted to be fresh and clean for the outing with my friend. The cold water felt so good on my body after all the morning work and the stress. I scrubbed well, used my soap, and came out feeling like a brand new person. I dried myself, applied my cream, and picked a nice outfit because I didn’t want to look rough when going out with someone I hadn’t seen in years.
Getting fresh for the outing
After my bath, I dressed up properly and met my friend outside where he was waiting. We walked down to a nice, cool spot around town that wasn’t too noisy. We ordered something to drink and just started gisting. We talked about old times, how life has been treating us, people we used to know, and we laughed a lot. It felt so good catching up after so long because we had so many memories to share. We spent hours there just enjoying each other’s company and it didn’t even feel like time was moving.
Out with my friend
When I finally got back home that evening, the first thing that hit me was hunger. All the walking and talking with my friend had finished the cornflakes I ate earlier. Luckily there was egusi soup in the house from yesterday. I didn’t even bother to warm it too much — I just heated it a bit, made some eba quickly, and sat down to eat. That first spoon of egusi with meat entered my body and I just knew I was home. I ate well and drank water after, because nothing beats the taste of home food after a long day outside.
Egusi soup saved me
By the time I finished eating, I was tired but in a happy way. My body was weak but my heart was full from all the gist, laughter, and good food. I still had enough energy to arrange my things that I scattered in the morning, change into something lighter, say my prayers, and finally lay on my bed. As I closed my eyes, I was just grateful for a simple but sweet day. From chores to surprise meetings to egusi soup, it was one of those days that remind you life is made of small moments.
