The diary game: village vibes and me(20/2/2026)

Yesterday I was in the kitchen getting vegetables chopped, things washed, everything prepared. It shows effort. The greens were neatly cut and ready. That’s the behind-the-scenes part of cooking people don’t always see. And it always seems stressed but fun, and it was prepared for breakfast.

After breakfast, I decided to take a visit to my aunty's place .when I got there met her mixing flour to prepare buns and I greeted her and she welcome me to her house. Her hands were deep in the work, turning simple flour into something meaningful. It shows patience and strength. Cooking like that is not small work, it takes time and energy. And the buns turn out so good with the taste.

During the buns process she ask me and her daughter to help fry garri, so the big pot on fire outside is the native way of frying garri in part of west Africa. My cousin was the one turning the garri in the pot while the fire burned underneath. That’s real traditional cooking heat, smoke, focus, and consistency. It’s the kind of process that requires attention.

Then when we finished frying we help my aunt to select the palm fruit for the production of red oil.plantain and palm fruit bunches was beside a local sieve. It gives that natural, village feel. It reminds you that food starts from somewhere from the ground, from harvest, from real effort. And this one of the reasons I love visiting my aunt cuz of the village vibes.

Yesterday wasn’t just about cooking. It was about creating and preparing. A simple day, but very productive and real.
