SLC-S29/W1-“Thinking and Ideas!| If You Were in Charge!”

Hello friends, I hope you are all well. For the first week of the Steemit Challenge contest, I will be sharing my Thinking and Ideas! I would like to thank the organizers of this challenge, and without further delay, I am starting my participation.

If you were given full authority for one year in your community or country, what is the first issue you would address?

If I were given full authority over our country for one year, the first thing I would address is corruption. I know that it might not be entirely possible to solve this in a year because corruption has taken hold of every level and every vein of country. From ordinary people’s fair benefits and rights to the judicial system, corruption has infiltrated everywhere.

Bitter as it may be, it cannot be denied that the biggest obstacle to a country's progress is corruption. If cancer develops inside the body, we may not realize it initially, but the end result is devastating. In the same way, corruption enters a country's system, destroys it, and eventually leaves the nation economically crippled.

For this, I primarily blame the government bureaucracy, because the biggest corrupt individuals in the country are these bureaucrats and political figures. When everyone from top to bottom is busy with corruption, no one looks toward the country's improvement; instead, the common people suffer day after day. They have designed the system in such a way that people have become habituated to it.

It might not be possible to eliminate this problem from the root level in one year, but I want to create a transparent system within the upper echelons of bureaucracy that is free from political influence. If this corruption problem is solved, it is possible to bring massive changes to the country's economy, including improvements in education and people’s standard of living.

Why did you choose this issue over others?

I am a resident of a developing country. Our country has many other problems, including education, social systems, politics, and infrastructure, but I have bypassed all these issues to choose the suppression of corruption because I believe all those issues are interconnected.

Today, corruption has spread extensively even within the education system. A meritorious student cannot join their dream job despite having the qualifications because bribes are required more than merit. It has been seen many times that wealthy people leak and buy exam question papers for their children; as a result, the talented and hardworking ones cannot survive the competition.

Every student dreams of joining the civil service, but when they have to pay a huge bribe despite being qualified, the thought enters their mind that they must recover that bribe money through corruption at any cost. This is just one example of how corruption spreads through the system.

What is that one difficult decision you would have to make?

The most difficult decision for me would be to remove political influence from the system and ensure governance based on merit. I know this is much easier said than done; implementing it is a thousand times harder. This is because, in doing this, I will have to go against people who have the power to control the country. It might turn out that the number of people on my side is negligible compared to my opponents, and I will gain many enemies.

Going against the greed for power among political figures to appoint meritorious and qualified people is no less than putting one's hand in fire. However, if this difficult task is successful, it is possible to change the system. Only when the system changes will the country progress, though I may face various complexities in performing this crucial and difficult task, for which I must take appropriate steps.

How would you explain this decision to people who disagree with you?

In reality, I don't think those who do not want the system to change can be brought to the right path through emotion. If I go against political figures to remove a hateful act like corruption from the country's system, I won't be able to make them agree with me by explaining; therefore, if necessary, I will take action. Even if people from my own party oppose me, I cannot step back because, to me, leaving a beautiful, corruption-free system for the future and the next generation is what matters.

Actually, when you try to do good work, obstacles will come, and when working to change a system like corruption, the opposition or obstacles will be a thousand times greater. But if I cannot do it today, then perhaps changing this system will never be possible. Because with time, new people will enter the system and work to fill their own pockets rather than serving the people—this way, the country will collapse at some point. Therefore, I will first try to make those who oppose me understand the importance of patriotism and the country's progress; if they still do not understand, I will have to take action, even if it makes them my enemies.

Hi @ripon0630, welcome to thinking and ideas week 1

My Observation:

Fighting corruption requires so many measures and indeed, it is any country's biggest obstacle.

Corruption is a reaper of good things and if not dealt with from the root, it stays as a stigma for life. Determination with the right steps would go a long way in achieving this.
