Spyder Movie-review: Meet this new villain that can change your mind

Sudalai the mad psychotic serial killer gives me the creep!
Recently there is one villain actor that made me impressed by his acting skills. I noticed him first in the Tamil movie Spyder, a thriller about an intelligence officer Shiva (Mahesh Babu) who is challenged by a psychotic serial killer Sudalai outstandingly played by SJ Surya, who is wreaking havoc in Hyderabad. In this movie, the hero role was so weaken although Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is so strikingly handsome with style. You can feel the creepiness of Sudalai, be it his hairstyle, mannerisms or how he revels in other’s pain, S J Suryah make you thrill, chill and creep and he deserves the honour to walk away with all the attention.

Spyder Storyline
The hero Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is an intelligent inventor that has designed a panic calls alert system that when people make panic calls, his system sends him an alert where he then get to listen to the distress calls using his spy apps. One such call lands him a geeky girlfriend Charlie (Rakul Preet Singh). And another such call makes him cross paths with a very dangerous psychotic serial killer Sudalai.

The psychotic serial killer is on the prowl in the city. He is not alone with an assistance from his younger brother Bhairavadu (Bharath), who stalks and collects details of their next prey. Unlike most of the serial killers, these two has got no particular preferences in selecting their victims. They kill everyone from teenage girls to elderly people, without any discrimination of male or female.

The wailing sounds and flowing tears of unconsolable kin of their victims give these killers a high. A sadistic pleasure that they started experiencing when they were kids. Both brothers were born in a graveyard as their father was a graveyard caretaker. From the moment they were born, the wailing grieving and mourning sounds give them pleasure and made them addicted to listening to this sound and made them kill so many of their villagers at their very young age.

Tragic happened when their parents were killed by villagers who burned their house down after they learned about the evil brothers activities. However the two brothers managed to escape and moved to the city where they continue their evil activities.

When Sudalai is chased by police, he cleverly hid himself by capturing hostage of an entire family. There's this creepy feeling when a reveal of his victim’s dead body in that house hanging dead while he walks and sits around casually in that house.

The confrontation between Sudalai and Shiva is so tense as both are equally smart. A brilliant storyline with back and forth exchange between the two prime characters is well written and smartly executed with convincing performances by these 2 leading roles. The peak of important face-off between Shiva and Sudalai gives us the pleasure in the end.

Morale of the story
Spyder also has a message that speaks of the evils of our civilization. The scenes where a group of housewives bond together by overcoming their fears to stop a murderer. Or when people realise that they have a moral duty to lend a helping hand to another fellow human being in the middle of a crisis are very strong and moving.

Outstanding Villain Role
Meet S Justin Selvaraj, known by his stage name S.J. Surya (born 20 July 1968) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, actor, music composer and producer who has worked in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film industries. My hats off to him... he is in my top list of favorite villain now.
