The Dairy Game 12/08/2021 - Perceptions on Catastrophic Floods in Europe.
The recent floods with dramatic effects on people in several areas of northwestern Europe have led to all sorts of analyzes and hyperanalyses, some of which are more and more strange.
- Religious perception is the most stupid, as you might expect based on knowledge of religious attitudes so far. This type of perception considers that the floods that killed several hundred people and caused damage of several billion euros can be thanked to God who in this way shows that he does not like the community of gays and lesbians. Obviously, this type of perception is the most disconnected from reality, the most oligophrenic of the variants.
- Perception of man-made ecological catastrophe. This type of perception is based on the impression that there was once a stable, benevolent, perfect climate and that man destroyed the beauty of the climate by increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, from 0.028% to 0.041%. This type of reductionist thinking considers all the evils of the planet to be due to CO2, ignoring a million other aspects of global ecosystem reality - including the massive climate fluctuations of the distant and recent past, the rarity of glacial periods like now, rhythmic glacial and interglacial stages, the small glacial period and countless other elements.
Even from the extremely complex climatic equation, comprising hundreds of variable elements from volcanic activity to cyclical solar activity, all other elements are omitted and everything is focused on CO2, with an imbecility of big days. By promoting this approach in the media for decades and by funding research that has only this predetermined result, this way of seeing reality is widespread, including in the scientific community, which has become a kind of penis captivus of its own funding needs.
- Naturalistic realistic perception. It is a type of perception that can be found in people who have an above average capacity for synthesis and an overview of natural realities at the level of eons, in which man is perceived as a small recent detail of global ecosystem reality. Human activity is perceived as a whole, from global ecosystem transformations, to interference in all terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, from desiccation of wetlands to deforestation on a massive scale, from undermining the health of ocean ecosystems by destroying fish stocks and so on.
Obviously, the change in the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is an element, in addition to hundreds and thousands of other changes, including other greenhouse gases such as methane for example. Such a perception sees the climate as naturally eminently unstable, with major changes often at an extraordinary speed, cyclical but unpredictable in detail - that is, no one even knows if this glaciation ends and all the ice on the ice melts planet - as it was before the Quaternary, or a new glacial stage is reinstated after the current interglacial ends - which means that for example over New York there will be 2 km of ice - caps that will again cover much of North America and Eurasia.
Such a vision finds that rivers have flooded areas where they have deposited sediments for tens and hundreds of thousands of years in their floods every year, giving sands and pebbles hundreds and thousands of meters thick… over which we have installed the current cities. That is, in areas where the waters were overflowing anyway. That the rivers were squeezed between the dams… this only increased their aggression, that they do not have enough natural runoff as they always had… and from time to time they break from these earth dams, embarrassing nothing in their way.
My opinion is that obviously the 3rd variant of these approaches is the most worthy for a rational man in the 21st century. Regardless of anything else. A kind of realization of the reality that you live on a living planet, with sometimes dramatic events locally, regionally or globally, with unpredictable changes in detail only intelligible possibly by understanding the past, from climate to asteroid impact, from dramatic extinction waves at a relative stability through supposed mechanisms of the Gaia theory. A kind of finding and accepting the reality that we are here, in the best and most beautiful of all possible worlds.
An interesting mention may be that there are enough people who officially position themselves on the type 2 approach, with the man-made climate catastrophe, but more privately, more among friends, suggests that they actually have a sincere attitude 3, realistic-naturalistic.
It's just that I can't afford such statements in public, that this is the case in the academic system, university, research institutes, ecc.… where in the actual world political correctness / looking in another direction / lie are fundamental to keep funding and position.
