SLC-S28/W4-“Local Taste, Global Twist| Global Dessert!”
Hi Food Lovers!
It's my delight to welcome you to my entry for the week 4 global dessert challenge! This week, I'm going to transform simple local ingredients into a dessert that looks and tastes international. I wanted to create something unique, yes, something creamy 🍨, refreshing, beautiful, but most importantly, affordable.
After considering various options, I chose to make:
I was inspired by the smoothness of Italian panna cotta, so I wanted to make something similar, but using a very simple and affordable ingredients I have at home which are bananas, coconut and milk, with a small touch of groundnut & honey. I combined them to create a beautiful layered dessert that looks both intercontinental, and cozy.
Immediately, I imagined the combo of banana and coconut, and I knew it would be perfect for this challenge. These ingredients are easy to find but when I neatly layered them, it was so elegant to serve in an international restaurant.
I chose this dessert because I wanted something simple and naturally sweet, yes something creamy, refreshing, affordable and unique.*
Normally before one can make a global dessert, you will need expensive ingredients like gelatin and cream. But I wanted us to see that we can use those everyday ingredients at home to create a world class something.
Ripe bananas are naturally sweet and soft and creamy when blended. Coconut is naturally sweet too, it's creamy and its tropical aroma . Milk balances everything because of its smoothness.
Mixing these 3 combos with the touch of honey helps me form a cloud cup, a soft, creamy, and sweet delight.
- Fresh ripe bananas
- Grated Coconut
- Liquid milk, honey and
Groundnuts.
These ingredients are not costly and are very easy to find. Yet when I layered them it became the global creamy panna cotta, or you can call it parfait.
I got 2 ripe bananas, blended them to make banana puree.
Step 2 I blended coconut with little milk to get thick coconut cream. This was use to form the white cloud layer.
Step 3 I build the layer in a transparent glass.
- First layer was smooth banana puree
- Second was thick coconut cream
- Third was the sprinkles of milk for cloudy finishing.
**Step 4 was the decoration of the top with **
- Banana slices
- Coconut flakes
- A sprinkle of honey and groundnuts.
And then, my banana cloud cups was ready!
As I said before, I was inspired by the Italian panna cotta. And the layered style comes from the curiosity to make the dessert look fancy. Then the decoration was inspired by a tropical island dessert, especially in Jamaica they like banana and coconut.
All these were in an attempt to use local ingredients in making a global dessert.
It was heavenly, appetizing, creamy, and sweet, why won't it? I mean all the ingredients I used were sweet and the sprinkles of grated coconut make it crunchy too. It was refreshing, you know I refrigerated a bit, so it was so so delightful.
Well, making this simple dessert that goes global proves that we can use simple ingredients from our home to make something filling and satisfying.
Thank you and I hope you like my dessert. See you again next week!
I'm inviting my friends @ngoenyi @eliany and @okere-blessing to join this contest.
