The Leticia Pact

in Project HOPE5 years ago

In attention to the "Leticia Pact", a document signed last year by the presidents of Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Guyana and Suriname, with the objective of carrying out joint actions to counteract the environmental deterioration of the Amazon forest, in this segment I will be sharing environmental information, focused on the help offered by indigenous communities to contribute to this cause undertaken by these South American heads of state.

It is necessary to emphasize that to the present date fires still persist in the Amazonian forest, situation that maintains in alert to the international community, since the threats of present affectation on these tropical forests, considered like the "lungs of the planet", mainly by the excessive deforestation and occupation of great extensions of lands destined for the establishment of agricultural activities, complex scene that deserves governmental agreements in the search of safeguarding the biodiversity of the Amazonian forest.

The context of affectation, which crosses the Amazon rainforest, achieved to a great extent certain agreements between the countries involved; Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Guyana and Suriname, signing the Leticia Pact, an instrument that establishes within its principles the protection of the Amazon, through the conservation of its forests, hence, the representatives of the signatory countries committed to design coordinated actions, make a real assessment of the state of environmental degradation that crosses the Amazon rainforest, in the search for mechanisms to combat deforestation and forest degradation.

In this sense, indigenous leaders from Brazil and Colombia have said that it is time to save the Amazon, so it is the ideal time to act, taking as a starting point the initiative of the South American presidents, as is the case of indigenous leader Nelly Kuiru (National Commissioner of Communication of the indigenous peoples of the Macro-Amazon), by Colombia), who expressed that "we should start working on a linear knowledge of the academy with the traditional knowledge because it is the traditional knowledge that has allowed the indigenous peoples to preserve the place for so many years".

Hi @lupafilotaxia

Excellent reading, the situation in the Amazon rainforest is really worrying, I see with much indignation the little publicity in the media and social networks on this subject, which particularly saddens me a lot.
The reasons are obvious and many, but the important thing is that a solution is found.
Thanks

Hello @janettyanez

Yes, there is disinformation, but initiatives such as those proposed in this pact are viable as long as they incorporate indigenous communities into decision-making.

Hello @lupafilotaxia.

Certainly I have always thought that the environmental fight for the preservation of our vegetal lung (Amazon rainforest) should start from the initiatives of native Indians, who know the environmental needs better than any other inhabitant.

Greetings and thanks for sharing.

Hi @carlos84

It is correct, the topic has always been debated, since the natives live from the tirra, in a balanced way from there that, imitating their styles on a large scale, implies developing more friendly practices with nature. Greetings and blessings to the family.
