In our quest to find life outside our planet, astronomers continually search the universe for exoplanets that meet the essential requirements for life, at least as we know it, and one of these essential requirements for life is water, here on Earth where there is water there is life.

Pero resulta que no es necesario salir de nuestro sistema solar pues existen lunas, tres en Júpiter (Ganímedes, Europa y Calixto) y una en Saturno (Encélado) que, según los expertos, albergan enormes océanos de agua líquida que rodean a la luna, que puede llegar a los noventa kilómetros de profundidad, ocultos bajo una corteza de hielo.

The bad news is that this ice crust can be up to one hundred kilometers thick in the case of Callisto, which is why they have chosen Enceladus, a moon of Saturn whose ice layer is estimated to be "only" ten kilometers thick and that under it there is an ocean that is estimated to be about thirty kilometers deep.

Pero Encélado está muy lejos para poder manejar al robot desde la Tierra, por término medio la señal tarda más de una hora en llegar más otro tanto de vuelta lo que hace imposible mantener una conversación, por ello el robot estará dotado de una inteligencia artificial que le permitirá desplazarse de forma autónoma por la superficie de la luna.

The robot is made up of screw-shaped segments that would allow it to advance through the cracks, in the hypothetical case that it found a hole to slip through, until it reached the subterranean ocean of Enceladus, the robot can also swim and dive autonomously to to be able to explore it in search of some form of life.

El robot está formado por unos segmentos en forma de tornillo que le permitirían avanzar por las grietas, en el hipotético caso de que encontrase hueco por donde colarse hasta llegar al océano subterráneo de Encélado, el robot puede nadar y bucear también de forma autónoma para poder explorarlo en busca de alguna forma de vida.
