As you all know, the set of electronic devices that are placed in some part of our body or our clothes interacting with the user to perform a specific function are called Wearables, examples of these wearables are smart watches or bracelets that control our state of health.
Como todos sabéis se denominan Wearables al conjunto dispositivos electrónicos que se colocan en alguna parte de nuestro cuerpo o nuestra ropa interactuando con el usuario para realizar alguna función concreta, ejemplos de estos wearable son los relojes inteligentes o las pulseras que controlan nuestro estado de salud.
In the case of smart watches or bracelets it is simpler but when we talk about devices that are integrated into our clothes one of the biggest challenges is how to power these devices, the clothes get wet, get dirty and you have to wash them but the batteries existing on the market cannot be put in the washing machine.
En el caso de relojes o pulseras inteligentes es mas sencillo pero cuando hablamos de dispositivos que van integrados en nuestra ropa uno de los mayores retos es como alimentar de energía estos dispositivos, la ropa se moja, se ensucia y la hay que lavar pero las baterías existentes en el mercado no se pueden meter en la lavadora.

But now a team of scientists from the University of British Columbia in Canada have designed a battery that can be washed, twisted and stretched to twice its size without losing its performance, conventional batteries are made of hard and rigid materials but in this new battery the key compounds are crushed and embedded in thin sheets of rubbery polymers.
Pero ahora un equipo de científicos de la universidad de la Columbia Británica en Canadá han diseñado una batería que puede ser lavada, retorcida y estirada hasta el doble de su tamaño sin perder sus prestaciones, las baterías convencionales están formadas por materiales duros y rígidos pero en esta nueva batería los compuestos clave son triturados e incrustados en finas láminas de polímeros gomosos.
The battery consists of several extremely thin layers of zinc and manganese dioxide stacked and placed in a housing of the same waterproof and hermetically sealed polymer to ensure the integrity of the battery, in tests carried out so far the battery has withstood 39 wash cycles and they hope to improve it.
La batería está formada por varias capas extremadamente finas de zinc y dióxido de manganeso apiladas y colocadas en una carcasa del mismo polímero impermeable y sellado herméticamente para asegurar la integridad de la batería, en las pruebas realizadas hasta ahora la batería ha resistido 39 ciclos de lavado y esperan mejorarla.

The fact that they are made of zinc and manganese oxide is not by chance, conventional batteries are normally made with lithium ions that can produce toxic substances and it must be taken into account that these devices have to be in contact with our skin and they have to make sure they don't kill potential customers.
El hecho de que estén fabricadas de zinc y óxido de manganeso no es casual, las baterías convencionales están normalmente fabricadas con iones de litio que pueden producir sustancias tóxicas y hay que tener en cuenta que estos dispositivos tienen que estar en contacto con nuestra piel y hay que asegurarse de no matar a los potenciales clientes.
As if this were not enough, both zinc and manganese oxide are more abundant materials and therefore much cheaper than lithium, this will make it possible to manufacture inexpensive batteries so that the price of clothing will not have to be raised for the fact that they have integrated smart devices.
Por si esto fuera poco, tanto el zinc como el óxido de manganeso son materiales más abundantes y por ello mucho más baratos que el litio, esto permitirá fabricar baterías económicas con lo que no se tendrá que subir el precio de las prendas de vestir por el hecho de que lleven dispositivos inteligentes integrados.

Saludos @mauromar, desde el punto de vista de la tecnología cada día consiguen abaratar más los costos de muchísimas cosas, bueno eso es lo que comenzamos a oír hace algunos años, en cambio desde el punto de vista de los mercados financieros cada día que pasa nos acercamos más a un colapso monetario mundial… Habrá que esperar a ver quién tenía razón.

It is good to see how technology advances at the pace of people's needs, with respect to this battery, for safety, they will have to do many tests and adjustments before using them integrated into a clothing.
